i'm not coming down on any1...i personally think that if u have lost 5 pounds or 125 pounds...u should b proud of urself...and b happy that u r losing...but when people arent losing they want to start blaming the surgeon...the surgeon is there to perform surgery and give u fills when needed...what else do u want him to do??????? they dont lose the weight 4 u...they dont watch what u eat...make u exercise or read u bedtime stories...i expected my surgeon to put this band on me safely...give me fills when i didnt feel restriction and make sure i was losing healthy...i didnt expect anything more from a doctor...u have to take responsibility for ur part in this journey...if ur not losing change ur eating or exercise habits...and be TRUTHFUL with urself as to y ur not losing...my friend who had the bypass is always boo--whooing about not losing the weight she thought she would while snacking on jack in the box at 10p.m....uuummmm hello????????? is that the surgeons fault???????????

Where I do see where your coming from but at the same time these people can be refferring to the fills not being a tad bit agressive I am only basing this on my own experience, I did not have restriction 7 months into my band life and so I wasn't losing but as soon as I got to my sweet spot I was well on my way  So I think that is where the blaming the surgeon comes from when one is so desperate it si possible to blame anyone!!!!

I look at your stats and I say GO GIRL! You have done a great job I am slowly getting there and am very proud of myself even if i am not the model queen yet..the compliments are rolling in and everyone's sucess is what keeps me going, knowing I will some day be right there with you all....

Yea I see what you are saying and I will be the first to admit it I fall into that catagory if I want a cookie I am going to eat it, if not I will gorge so basically I am not completely obedient but I am on schedule 2lbs a week that is all that is expected..

But I now know the reasons him not being so agressive, he wanted me to transistion slowly now I understand but before I sure wasnt' I was impatient, I think we all would be. It's not a race it's getting there and slow and steady wins the race...every since I saw that saying I live by it.

I completely agree and on some levels I want to blame the company's who make the bands. In the last year or so ads are all over the place and I think people are running out and say "ok banded me - I want to go to Paris with husband" ( That woman just rubs me the wrong way - What she couldnt go to Paris before??). But these people dont stop to read the literature, do the research, etc etc. Did I know what to expect going in, not 100% but I knew that I wouldnt drop lbs overnight. Did I know that I was going to have to make changes in me - YES!

I totally agree with you, I see people talking about eating pizza and chips and jelly Beans but then why haven't I lost any weight? I have been struggling this week because for some reason I didn't lose anything this week, I haven't cheated and I didn't gain, I have been good with my diet. BUT i had some weird nausea and dizzyness on Wed so I didn't work out, and I didn't work out as much as I could or should have. But no matter what it's my doings. I start food this weekend and boy I am so nervous. Not because I don't think my stomach can handle it but more so I don't want to make the wrong food choices. I have been given a tool, that which if I use correctly will be the answer to all my prayers. IF I abuse it it's only going to be a waste of time and money.

2fly-you are lucky I have been banded since Oct 29th 08 and I still don't have restriction. I have been gaining and losing the same 3 freaking pounds for the last 7 weeks. That is with another fill. I have 5.5 cc in my 10cc band. I am going for my 4th fill in May and I pray that I can feel restriction then. I have no time to do anything for myself because I have 2 children under the age of 3. By the time I get my children to bed I am exhausted and can't do anything. I have lost some since my surgery but I have done it all by myself. The band is not restricting me at all. I am not blaming anyone. I have eaten pretty good and I do get up and do something when I can. I try to do something for at least 20 minutes 3 times a week. Hopefully I can feel some restriction soon!

I sure hope so too! I have been trying to restrict myself since the begining. I would love to tell other people that don't have the band and don't have to worry about weight loss that the band is not the thing that makes you lose weight in the begining....it is you and only you. It is your choices that you make and I am sure that as soon as you get to that sweet spot you can start reducing your caloric intake and amount of food that you eat. How many pounds have you lost since your 4th fill 2-fly?

not everyone gets restriction with their first set of fills, i myself needed 8; 6 months down the road before i had a clue that a band was in me.

i was strict on my diet / worked out like crazy & had only lost 30lbs by that time. many of us who have/had dieted in the past know that discouragement in the scale reverts many back to bad behaviours - so i can see where some might blame their dr.

i also think that the relationship w/your dr goes beyond the surgery - i'm 18 months out and still have regular appts. i think there is a better correlation of those who meet regularly with their surgical support system & checkups than those who don't & expect the band to work w/out wanting to change poor habits / lifestyle.

hi, this is a very interesting thread. I have only been fitted for 2 weeks, however my Nurse has told me I will have 2 fills in the next few months and will lose 5.5 stones before spring next year. This was very uplifting to me, and I believe her.

My first fill is scheduled for 3 weeks time and my second for 7 weeks time. She has a great reputation for getting peoples fills spot on, and I really believe we will work it out together. I have lost 25 lbs including both pre and post op. I am on liquids only but I make sure they are suitable nutritionally.

I know all of the work is down to me, the band will only help, not do it for me. I am 100% commited to the whole thing, I expect to struggle at times. I will succeed!:)

Chubby

ps she advised me not to weigh myself between visits to see her

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
