bcbs and cigna

Recommended Posts

I have just been approved by bcbs,my primary, and I have cigna as a secondary. I was wondering if cigna would pay the 20% that bcbs does not cover. Any comments are welcomed! Thanks!!!

It seems likely that if both cover the surgery, that the primary would pay whatever it covers percentage wise and then the secondary (co-insurer) would pay its precribed percentage. It could wind up covering 100% or you could still have to pay some. Time to get on the phone and make sure BOTH cover weight loss surgery, and then ask questions.

Cigna was my primary and covered 100% of my surgery minus copays. Good luck.

I work for CIGNA. Let's say your bill is $20000 and BCBS pays all but $2000. When this claim hits CIGNA, they'll look to see if you've met your deductible with them. If not, they won't pay anything until it's met. So let's say you have a $500 deductible with CIGNA. CIGNA would apply $500 of the $2000 to your deductible, you're on the hook for this amount.

Then they'd pay their portion. Let's say you have 10% coinsurance. Then they'd pay 90% of the $1500. What's left over you pay.

This isn't just how CIGNA works, this is how all secondary payors process their claims. It puts more of the bill on you and reduces the amount the insurance companies pay out of their pocket. These days it almost doesn't pay to have double coverage unless you're getting it for free.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
