New Bandster & Have A Question re: food amount

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I'm new, banded 4/7/09. Overall, no problems but I am learning alot.

Biggest lesson: that my "hunger" has less to do with actual hunger and more to do with those great smells!

Anyway - my surgeon does a few days of Clear liquids, few of full liquids. I'm now on "pureed". I put that in quotations because, I'm not actually putting it in a blender, but eating eggs, applesauce, soft fish, etc and mashing it. No vomiting at all.

Here are my primary questions:

1) I do get a full sensation and stop eating. It seems like I'm eating too much (maybe 3/4 cup).

2) I'm also a big Water drinker and having trouble balancing fluid/food.

How can my pouch hold this much? Am I already stretched out? I'm a bit freaked out thinking I might have done this and already messed up!

Did your surgeon give you food guidelines in the sense of portioning? Are you sipping Water all day long like you are supposed to. I would say if you are following the proper way your surgeon would like you to then do not worry to much. I know there are many threads on here of portioning, and tips for the mushie stages, search around, I am sure that will give you some ideas. Good luck!

That is a little more that doc usually wants you to have. I was like that after about a week. My pouch was fine, but I knew I would need to learn how to do it right. I got my first fill on Mon. Today I could start the solids again, I plan to use only soft stuff for a few days. I didn't pay attention and to a bite larger than I should and paid the price! The feeling is unreal, I was sweating and having trouble breathing. After it passed I didn't want any more food. I waited about 3 hours and tried again. All was well, but the amount was so small and I was full. Now that I have restriction I can understand how this works. You will be fine, just try to keep to the amount you were told by the doc and make good choices.

Congrats on your surgery. I'm not sure on how much food is normal at this point but as suggested by another poster, since you probably don't have Fluid in your band yet, the amount doesn't sound unreasonable. I think your body will let you know if you've had too much.

By the way, You've been added to the list of April bandsters HERE.

Also, there's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
