Pain at bottom sternum, between breasts...lapband related or not?

Recommended Posts

I have been having somewhat persistent pain/discomfort around the lower part of my sternum, between breasts even while eating or drinking I feel the pain/discomfort. While just sitting around, it'll flare up like a spasm and feels like there's a sore in there. When I eat or drink, it feels like my food is rubbing against something irritating it. I may not be giving the best description of it, but it is really starting to alarm me. Does this sound like it is band related or not? Any recommendations?

About a month ago I was having pain in the middle of my stomach during and after eating and drinking. So I went to primary doc and he sent me to GI doc who sent me back to band doc because I had a slippage. The band doc unfill band completely and about 2 weeks later I was back to normal. I not sure if this is what you have but if it hurts when your eating you might want to see your band doc. Hope this helps!!!!

I'm curious though, if you had slippage, didn't it require surgery? I don't doubt you at all, but it would seem to me that a simple unfill wouldn't resolve the slippage issue.

Hey so surgery is not require for all slippage. It depends on how bad the slippage is. My band doc said that my stomach slipped up and so the band was around the middle of my stomach instead on the top of my stomach. After the unfill and liquid and mushies for a 2 weeks my band slipped back into place and now I feel much better and I'm losing!!!! However some people might have to have surgery with their slipped band if it is bad. But see your doctor I just got banded on jan 30 so it's still all new to me too.

Ive had that pain even when I drink Water or a Protein Shake and I now know that I needed abit of an unfill .5cc and it is no longer an issue. The only way I could get that feeling to go away was to wait for a productive burp/regurgitation...not exciting (I know).

So I have also been hearing alot about Papaya enzymes...check 'em out!~:)

I am having some severe pain in the same area and also in my back. I was banded Nov of 2007. This will be the second time in two weeks. Last week I was so sick from it that the pain made me vomit uncontrollably. It went away and now this morning I wake up and it is back. I have serveral issues as I lost my job last year have not been to have a fill in about a year and I have no medical insurance. I was banded in Mexico. Is there anyone out there that can suggest someone I might be able to see here in San Diego, CA..?

I have been having pain in my sternum for the last two days. It hurts when I cough, breath deep, it also hurts when I lay down. It is not constant but it feels really sore. I got a fill a few days ago and I am adjusting, I ate something too fast and unfortunately I threw up. I did not feel as if I husrt myself when I threw up but the next morning, my sternum hurt do bad, it felt like I had been kicked by a horse. I have also started to cough. Any thoughts?

I'm a sort-of-new bandster, May 29, 2012. I can tell you that I have had all these feelings since my last fill. My doc is great about answering emails, and has me going in for a slight unfill tomorrow. Maybe you're too full?

Best wishes for all of us!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
