Infected incision - bleack!

Recommended Posts

My biggest incision is infected. I'll spare you all most of the details, but on Sunday it started to 'ooze' a bit of Fluid. I changed my bandages until I ran out. This morning I went to the doctor on campus and was told I had an infection. The nurse cleaned and re-bandaged it and the doctor put me on Augmentin. How common is this? I've seen posts regarding port infections, but my other incisions have healed nicely. In fact, they just look like cat scratches right now. I hope the antibiotics clear it up soon.

Ouch, hope you feel better soon! My surgery isn't until next weekend so I can't offer any advise... does your doctor want you to come back and have it checked after so many days?

It happens sometimes. I had one that probably would've gotten infected if not for me being a nursing student and my husband being a long-time RN...we recognized where it was headed and stopped it in time. ORs are very sterile but we humans have bacteria on our skin, and we encounter it all the time. So what happened to you isn't that rare! Just be sure to take ALL your drug (don't stop if your incision clears up before you are through taking the drug!)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
