First time poster and I already feel like I'm "home"!

I recently decided that the Lap Band surgery is what I wanted to do then felt discouraged after the initial consult with the surgeon's assistant who said most likely he will suggest I have gastric bypass instead of the Lap Band because of my BMI which is about 57.

I feel very strongly in my heart and mind that the Lap Band procedure is the best option for me and out of desperation I Googled something like High BMI and Lap Band Surgery and here I am!

I am so happy to have found this group of like minded individuals and I have already read so many of your stories over the past hour. You have reaffirmed my choice for the Lap Band and I thank you all for sharing .

I am 5' 4" and weigh about 330 lbs. Like many people my story with weight is a long one and I will share more as time goes on. For now I am going to stand by my decision and if the surgeon in my area won't do it, I will find one who respects my choice!

Hi Happychick! I want to encourage you by letting you know that I had a BMI of about 52 when I got banded 7 months ago. I'm very happy with my weight loss of 66 pounds. Good luck going through the process of getting banded. Stay in touch.

Hi!!! Great to see a newbie with such a great attitude!!! My BMI when I started was over 70 and I still felt the lap band was made for me. It is a long road but one that is well worth it! good luck hun, and congrats on making such a good decision!

Happychick.....I definetly think you have the right attitude. You have to have the procedure that YOU feel is going to be the best fit for YOU. The 1st surgeon I met with tried to push me toward a by-pass, I personally wasn't interested in doing anything that radical to my body.

Good luck to you in your Quest for a healthy future, I know you will find lots of support here.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
