Bcbs mi - not covered!

Recommended Posts

As of Jan 1st 2009, if you have BCBS MI individule plan you are NOT covered for bariatric surgery.

Evidently this was covered before then but they have decided to unilateraly change the terms of their coverage without notifying members.

FYI, medical equipment isn't covered by this plan either so now I have to buy a CPAP machine out of pocket for my sleep apnea.

I knew I shouldn't have let them talk me out of purchasing a group plan for my business. That will change monday. I plan on increasing coverage and ringing the bill up as high as I can whether I need it or not

My understanding is that only the individual plans do not cover it. I would defenitly check though.

Did you try to appeal this? I suspect there are different levels of coverage. I have Empire Blue right now but may be switching to BC/BS of MI and would be pretty dissapointed if they didn't cover fills etc.

I have BCBS MI and I called today - I'm covered. I have a PPO Flexible Blue plan - I believe its only the individual coverage that was changed. I know there was something in the legislature regarding individual coverage premiums and what the policies would cover changing

It is only the individule policies. Since my insurance is through my business, I wanted group coverage but the agent sold me on the individule plan. I have since learned that she did so to make a quick sale as the group coverage is far superior for about the same price.

Anyway, I am interested in any legislation regarding the issue. Health insurance is defenitly something that requires government regulation.

Does anyone know if they cover fills

tammy

I'm finding that this is based on the policy you have. You'd have to contact your surgeon to find out what code they use for fills and then call bcbsm to find out with that code.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
