It's day 5 of 14 days pre-op diet. It's really tough. I miss food and eating. I can only have 5 Optifast shakes and SF Jello, Crystal lite and SF tea. I've added SF popsicles, and FF chicken broth and I cheated by eating a couple of bites of cooked veggies from the Soup I made the chicken broth from. At least some ppl get to have real food: veggies, salads and OMG chicken. I don't understand why there's such a huge difference between pre-op diets from doctor to doctor and I don't understand why someone who needs to lose 100 lbs has to the same diet as someone who needs to lose 200-300. It doesn't make sense to me. Yes, I do want my surgery to be a sucess and I don't want to take any risks. I just needed to rant for a bit. At least by the time I do get to start eating I will appreciate the healthy stuff like chicken, veggies, salad if I can still tolerate it. AND, I've only lost 4 lbs so far. I lost it after the 1st day of liquid. I'm on day 5, I thought I'd be down 7-8 lbs by now! Argh! Sorry about the ranting. I'm just hungry. : (

Well, maybe your doctor should've helped clue you in why a person who needs to lose 100 pounds and a person who needs to lose 200 pounds Pre-Op diet being the same.... your liver needs to rest & it needs to strink. Fat people tend to have fat livers. It's an easy answer. Just being honest, maybe you should have the bypass if you are having such a hard time with the 2 week pre-op diet. Just an idea, best of luck :)

I feel your pain...I am on day 3 of a 20 day liquid diet. The first day was ok. Yesterday, by 7pm I was actually in tears from a terrible headache. Today was hard but I was able to get thru it. I just keep thinking about it as only 1 day. I am able to get thru it 1 day at a time. When I think of it as 20 days it seems overwhelming but 1 day....I can do anything for 1 day.

Keep your chin up, we are all rooting for you!!

Mlat, I LOVE that way of thinking. Why haven't I thought that...? I too can do anything for just 1 day!!!

I am on the end of day 5 of a 30 day and I am actually doing a lot better now than I thought I would be. The first two days were terrible, but I was at work those days sitting in my office all alone with nothing to think about but work and being hungry. Then I traveled (for work) for a couple of days, and I noticed I didn't feel as hungry. Today was the same - I was off and didn't notice being hungry because I was so busy planting flowers and trimming hedges and making my front yard look exciting.

So it could just be that I was preoccupied or maybe my stomach and mind is getting used to not being super excited about all of my endless lunch or dinner fatty choices. Who knows!

We're all in this together though!!! I sure had my moments of, "I'm making a mistake, I can't do this, this sucks, what have I gotten myself into" and I am sure I will have more in the next 25 days, but those times pass by!

Oh, and I am down 8.5 pounds in those 5 days - I just hopped on the Wii fit earlier to check. Yay!!!!!!!!

I know what everyone is going through, I'm only on day 2 of my liquid diet and I'm dying. I'm trying to sit in my office and work but all I can think about is food and how much I really want to eat. It has given me alot of awareness about the role of food in my life and how important it is...I look forward to any opportunity to eat. It's a major mental issue that I have to conquer if I am to be successful in this journey.

I have already cheated, a friend of mine called me to go out last night and since I hardly ever see her, I accepted. That was foolish because there is no way to go to a restaurant and not eat. I had some chicken and I actually felt uncomfortably stuffed when leaving..even though I could have easily eaten that amount before. I'm not beating myself up over it because a) I still have 13 days to do well before surgery, :) I learned that there are reasonable limits to my willpower and attempting to go beyond them is tempting fate and c) I am going to have to go into hibernation in regards to a social life for the next 6 weeks. I'll have to come up with some excuse for my friends as I am not telling them about the surgery but going out has to be off the table for now...otherwise, it's too hard. I've already started dropping hints at the office about a new healthy lifestyle as an explanation for why I am suddenly skipping the cafeteria.

This is easily one of the hardest things I have ever had to do and it's so helpful to be able to read posts from other people who are going through it the same time as I am. Good luck to all!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
