Stretching Your Pouch With Liquids

Recommended Posts

Can you stretch your pouch by drinking too much liquid. I drink a lot and sometimes can feel full from drinking. Am I stretching my pouch when I do this? I've had one fill of 4ccs on my 14 cc band. Isn't the hole still big enough for liquids like Water and ice tea to flow freely through?:welldoneclap:

Liquids don't stay in your pouch for longer than it takes to pass through to the part of your stomach below the band. You may still get the sensation of fullness from the liquids being there for a bit, but the liquids are not in your pouch. You're supposed to drink about 64 oz of Water a day. I find I drink a bit more than that. Don't have Protein Shakes instead of meals of "real" food because liquids pass out of the pouch and don't offer you any satiation...you get hungry faster.

That's what I thought - but last night before writing the post I DOWNED a glass of ice tea cause I was thirsty after playing tennis. I felt so incredibly FULL. And even a little miserable for like 30 minutes and I thought - I wonder if I'm stretching my pouch.

I kind of think of a funnel. When I drink, I figure as long as I drink slow enough that the liquid can flow through the band at a steady pace I am okay. If I drink too fast the opening can't keep up with the flow and backs up into the stomach while waiting to catch up. I might not be even close, but that is my visual.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
