Support Group in New York

Recommended Posts

Mary...I think you are doing great. You have lost a nice amount of weight since you have been banded. I wouldn't rush for a fill just yet. It is a really good idea to wait about 6-8 weeks after surgery for everything to heal. You don't want to take a chance of anything slipping so soon after surgery. Dr. Geiss has a great team for support but nothing compares to being with others who are going thru the same things as you. You should definitely join LIBanders and come to out diner meetings. We also go out after Dr. Geiss' meeting as well. There are sooo many of us who have been banded for awhile and have "seen it all". We are all very willing to share our experiences and answer any questions you may have. If one of us can't answer then there is always someone else who knows. If you ever want to talk feel free to email me privately and we can chat on the phone. I live in Nassau also. I Would love to get together with other banders.

Good Morning Jackie,

Thank you very much for your reply. I filled out the application for LIBanders online, but haven't heard from them yet. Sounds like a good group for support. I know where the Sweet Hollow diner is and I will seriously consider going, but not just yet. I don't know what I am so afraid of...I think it's all the negative comments I hear from ignorant people about those who opt for weight loss surgery. I appreciate your support and offer to e-mail you. I will stay in touch. Thanks again.

:D Hi ! My name is Lisa and I had my surgery on June 13, 2006 at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville ,NY (Westchester,NY).

They have their support meeting the first Wednesday of every month at 7 pm in the Conference room on the 5th floor. I have not been able to go since my husband does not get out of work until 7pm and I do not drive and have no one available to watch my son .

I do alot of online support such as this site and ObesityHelp.

What Iam looking for is a support group that has a better scheduled time and maybe even weekends so that I can go in person.

Does anyonw know of any in the Bronx or lower Westchester Region ( New Rochelle or White Plains)?

I have lost 50 pounds without any fill since my surgery on June 13,2006.

I would love to keep in touch with some New York bandsters.

Please leave me a message on this site and lets keep in touch .

Lisa aka LeeceLove70:)

Hi! I'm new here, and am trying to decide whether to have the lap band surgery or not. Can any of you recommend or give me some information about any of the Suffolk County surgeons who do this operation? I'm assuming that if they do the operation, they will also do the fills — is that generally correct? Any advice you can give — either here or by email — would be extremely helpful. And I'm SO glad I found this place!

Hugs,

Mama

Lisa - i'm searching for a lower Westchester support group too... my doctor offers one to all gastric surgery patients - but there's not enough "band talk"... the bypass folks have totally different struggles than we do...

Maybe we should start our own?!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
