Pre-op Optifast Help!

Recommended Posts

Any tips or suggestions for making it thru the 2wk pre-op liquid diet? My first day wasn't too bad but, I did have visions of sugar-plums dancing in my head. This is tough!

Focus on the goal and keep yourself busy. It is hard but very worth it.

Stay focused, keep away from temptation. You will be a raving biotch for a few days but you will adjust pretty quickly and you won't feel so hungry all the time and by the time the 2nd week rolls around it will be a breeze.

1. Stay away from food...the smell will get to you I promise!

2. Make sure the Optifast is always chilled....there is nothing worse than warm optifast.

3. Vary your optifasts. Add ice and blend for a smoothie. I liked to make vanilla Chi tea and put a vanilla optifast with some splenda and ice....very good! Also you can try different food extracts to vary the flavor.

4. For something warm you can also have chicken or beaf bullion cubes with warm water...these kept me going!

5. Eat SF popsicles and SF Jello.< /p>

6. Make sure to have 1 Optifast every 3 hrs 5 times a day...it really beats the hungeries.

7. Try and go for walks when it really gets to you

8. Remember this is probably the hardest part of the Lapband process. If you can get through this you can get through surgery and post-op life.

I have my surgery scheduled on May 21, 2009. And my Dr. gave me a list of 'rules' for the pre-op...

1. One Metaucil Capsule can be takedn at 10:00 am and one at 3:00 pm for hunger pangs

2. A green salad (no colors other than GREEN!) may be consumed, unlimited. Broccoli, bell paper, cucumber, celery, jicama, asparagus, minimal Tomato & mushroom and salad spritzer, up to 5 calories.

3. One chromium Piclinate 400mcg per day can be taken for fat-burning purposes.

I am only required to do a ONE week pre-op diet. But you may want to ask your Dr or Nutritionist if these tips are applicable for you! Good Luck!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
