sometimes I have this feeling like I have to burp b4 I take next bite

Recommended Posts

This has happened so much, I thought I'd ask if it's normal:

Sometimes I will take one bite and feel full. I know that can't be normal, because no way could I actually be full after one tiny little bite and there would be no way I could get any nutrition.

Believe me, I could win an award for being a slow eater... and I never ever drink with meals and have cut out even drinking 15 minutues before meals.

It's very awkward, especially in front of people to take just one bite and that's it. So I try to take a few more bites of my alreday small portion...

So, basically as I am eating along I feel like I hvae to burp before I can take another bite- because I am deathly afraid of pbing and I have had some really bad pb episodes!

So what the **** is this about? I have to wait for these tiny little burps before I can take another bite and chew it to hell. Dining with me is an hour long experience!!!!

This is common, you swallow air when you swallow food. Add to that the fact that us bandsters are pretty gassy in general. (I had an abdominal ultrasound last week and the tech couldn't believe how much air I had in my system and this was after fasting for around 15 hours!)

Anyway, The air takes up a lot of what little space you have in your pouch, you have to burp it up to let the food settle. I have a hard time burping at all since banding but have gotten pretty good a forcing the air up quietly between bites.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
