Good Morning all, I had my surgery on the 26th of March. I have mixed emotions about all of this. I have been over weight all of my life, nothing has worked in past. I am worried that this to will not work.

If you put effort into it & eat sensibly & EXERCISE then it should work for you... Remeber its a TOOL & a good one but you have to work with it..

ive not come across anyone yet who has sat on their butt eating doughnuts all day & got to their ideal weight? (someone will prob say they did)

Learn about your band & good luck with your weight loss

I'm going to say that nobody who has had this surgery has done it first thing out of the gate, without trying other diets, etc. and either failing completely or losing and then gaining the weight back with a little extra for good measure. Of course, deep down, you (and I and others) will wonder if this really will work. The truth is, it does -- for those who accept it as the tool that it is. How many diet products promise to help you eat less? Did you try any of them? Did they work? Of course not. But the lap band DOES exactly that. If you eat crap, then you probably won't lose. But if you eat as you have been instructed (protein first, 60 grams of Protein each day, etc....), get moving, etc. then you WILL succeed. The first week or two or even 4 after surgery, you are healing and you may or may not lose (and some people even gain a little) but once you start with that first fill, you'll be on your way!

Be encouraged! You didn't come this far to allow fear to hold you back. I know how you feel. However, like the other fellow bandsters said, do what you are supposed to do. Drink your Water, have your Protein and exercise. You will learn so much about your body. I am learning what exercises to do to burn fat for my body. The band is a tool, We have to use it. You will do just fine. Much love!

Hi maxwea,

Everything I have tried has worked, I just can't stick with it for very long. I feel that this takes it out of my hands to a degree. Many of us are like that here, so you now have a place to vent, share and learn. I am a little ahead of you, but still new. Hang with us on the journey and we will all be fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
