Starting REALLY facing my weight/life!

Recommended Posts

I have just really begun talking about this and am looking at lap band surgery. I'm 48 and 5'6 and 235. I have four younger sisters, all very heavy.....I called my insurance and will have to go through a year of their program before I'm eligible for surgery. I'm not worried about that or the surgery really. I wonder what life will be like after.

Ten years ago I got sick through blood poisoning and was on a respirator for 12 days - I got well and left the cigs alone after 25 years of smoking. I am so glad. I wonder if this surgery will be like that _ a tool that I can pick the ball up and run with it. I think going to the gym would be so much easier 50 pounds lighter...I have depression, zero motivation and am tired all the time. My feet hurt if I walk from the weight. I would like to be able to eat fairly normally but smaller amounts and get healthier becuase I am feeling my body feeling older and less mobile......

I would love to talk with anyone who's been through this who can share about their experience. I would love to be healthy and pretty again. I bought a pool and can't go out there around others in a swimsuit...that sucks! I hate to see pics of myself....don't take them or let others....familiar?

Thanks for listening!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
