Six weeks out and did something dumb and ate a little too much

Recommended Posts

So im going on my sixth week and I was so hungry and tried to find something to eat in my house and all i found was a lean cuisine pocket so I tried it. Now I feel awful. I have the sweats, I threw up twice i have acid reflux and my chest hurts a little. Any advice from anyone? AND NO I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN

Things will get stuck from time to time. For me it happens when I forget about the band and eat too quickly or don't chew well enough. I take papaya enzyme pills when that happens.... chew a few pills, try some sips of Water, and it passes within a few minutes. Feels like forever because it is awfully unpleasant. My sense is that the pills help but I may be imagining it. Other folks have recommended pineapple juice. I've only things come up twice since I had my band.

After a stuck episode I usually put myself on an antacid pill (like omeprazole/prilosec) for a few days and eat only soft stuff for a few days. And, like you, I find I don't want to try those foods again for a good long time!!

At 6 weeks you should be healed and on solids, right? So I can see why you'd think you could eat a lean cuisine thingie. I could've at 6 weeks...I had absolutely no restriction and didn't for MONTHS.

you may want to try it again in a couple months if it's something you really like to eat. Perhaps your surgeon restricted you right away (there are pros and cons to that)...I'd call Monday and find out. If you don't have restriction, your reaction seems just a tiny bit extreme.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
