Aetna Insurance Inforamtion for Newbie

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I am new to this forum and have a few questions.:tt2: I have Aetna Open Access Plan, the surgery is excluded from my plan but if it is Medically ness. then I have a 50/50 of getting approved. I have done a 3 month supervised diet and had a consultation with the surgeon and he said that I was a canidate and also my PCP is behind me and even wrote a letter to back me has well. I have artiritis in all joints throughout my back and I have to have injections in my hip to help me walk and function clearly because the pain gets so bad. Also am a broder line diabetic which runs heavy in the family on both sides. So I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or any comments to help the stress level and fear of not being approved. I am doing this most of all for me to get healthy and to be more active with my children and husband. And have been looking into the lap band for 3 years know and have gotten to the point where it is time to do something for me! I am head strong and have done an intensive research and ready to go forward.

I have Aetna POS as well.....They have a very detailed CPB on their website. Just do a search for CPB on the home page, then obesity on the next (CPB) page. It details exactly what you need to do. You mentioned having done the 3 month diet. Just be sure your doc noted your weight, and what you talked about at your monthly visits. That seems to be a common hang-up with approval. The lap band doc and staff will also help you a bunch with the details, remember they do this everyday, and have most likely dealt with Aetna before.

They seem to be one of the better ins. companies about approving from what I have read here.

I am in my beginning stages as well, starting the pre-op officially on 4/7, really starting now :tt2:.

Hope this helps! Jodi

Hey Jodi,

Yes, you did! I appreciate the advice. I am so nervous about this whole thing. But in god's will this will all come to pass. I just have left it in his hands at this point. I have a great surgeon and his staff is just amazing. But will definitly check out the requirments on that page just to make sure that I have everything that I need. Are you in GA?

Thanks again,

Dawn

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
