New Surgical Proceedure - TOGA Proceedure - WOW

Recommended Posts

Last night, I was introduced to TOGA....

Last night, I took part in a survey group. After talking to us about our surgical experiences, and the aftermath, they introduced a new surgical option called Toga, which is coming up before the FDA soon.

Toga basically is a proceedure that goes down the throat, stapling the stomach from the inside to make a pouch (it looked like in their demonstration video that it would use 5 or more staplings in the 1 hour proceedure).

The word is that it is as effective, if not more, than lapband at a comparible price, with NO INCISSIONS, no scars, less pain and no regular fills and maintanence.

The only drawback is that it is not considered reversable.

The word was that it could be on the market by Summer.

So something new is coming... If you are considering Lapband, this might be a coming option. After what I saw last night, I can honestly say, I would have been happy to have known about this one last year...

So this could be interesting.

Interesting info, Steve. It's great to know that if the band ever poops out on me (knocking on wood that it doesn't), that there are amazing new techniques that are being researched as we speak. I would never jump right in for any new technology because I'm pretty skeptical about the latest and greatest, but who knows what tomorrow will bring. With the ever growing problem with obesity, there's money to be made, and researchers looking for new breakthroughs.

Its cool. I had bypass like 14yrs ago i was planning on doing the Rose or StomaphyX but new Dr took over the pratice and he want a redo bypass or band over bypass due to the type bypass i had that they no longer do.

I know 3 people who have had the natural orifice gastric surgery. They all said it was much MUCH better than the bypass or anyother type they have had. One of the ladies in my support group said that she did not use the drugs for pain. Everyone that i know who have had it done LOVES it!!!

Do you mind my asking, why you are looking into another surgery when you already had a bypass? Didn't it help you? thanks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
