JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

I find it incredible how much fill levels differ and how totally different people can feel from them. I have had 3 fills.Currently sitting on 2.3ml in 10ml band. Since I got the 3rd fill a week ago I have been getting stuck a lot more and had my first PB yesterday. Yuck!

I definitely have to learn how to eat properly and what I can eat.

Its amazing as this is less than some people have for their first fill!

Hi Elcee, well I got another 2.5 mls today and it wasn't easy peasy for the doc at all, a little incomfortable is putting it mildly. Back to clear fluids for 48 hours and already I can feel the difference when I sip and get that internal 'air' movement straight after I sip. I have baby foods in ready for days 3 and 4 as we're going camping for the weekend so it's just easier han trying to make somethin outdoors separately to suit me. I reckon this will be the turning point for me but we shall see.

Happy Days

Fill is holding up. Switched from liquids today to solids for supper but added some liquid to my chicken and chewed very slowly and swallowed teeny bits of well-chewed mush.

School went well today. No kids for me yet, I'm still working on the schedule which I'll start Monday. I have to pull kids from their specials--mostly Spanish, library, computers, and study halls. I have to see how many of my kids returned, check their test scores to see what they need help in and create my groups accordingly. Some classes have so many kids needing help I can't take them all at once and need to find seperate places in the schedule. This year I only have around 65 kids whereas in the past I had 80-110, but they changed the way they scheduled things and its much harder to fit the kids in.

My neck starts to hurt from bending over all the various information and then creating my chart on the computer. Got home late. Raining out. Don't know if I can walk. Gonna try anyway. Roof leaking. Typical. Might have to bite the bullet and get roof fixed, which will delay us getting our basement back together once we get the perma-seal draintile moat put in.

But, have a roof over my head, clothes on my back, shoes on my feet and food to eat.

God is good.

astera, First let me say "Congratulations" and next let me ask "HOW?!" Was your highest weight on your ticker your weight at surgery? Because if it was, that means you lost about 1 lb. a day (the last person I met who had lost 1 lb. a day had had RYN bypass surgery--you had the band, right?). That's a far cry from the "1.5-2 lbs. a week" my doctor advised. What did you weigh on your surgery day?

Thank you! No I had to lose before surgery my weight at surgery was 220. I have only lost 25 since surgery in 3 months. And yes it was the band lol. :-)

Don't say only 25lbs.!! That is great I am at 29lbs. I was banded on 6/5/09 I have 2 fills. The first fill I had no restriction at all with this second fill I really dont feel any difference either. I am going back for my third fill Sept. 10th so hopefully I can start to feel some restriction. But you are doing great so please don't say "ONLY" when it comes to pounds lost because every pound counts.

We bandsters need to make a pact never to denigrate ourselves or minimize our accomplishments. Every pill we're taken off of, every size we shrink, every extra step we can now take is a victory. Every time we walk away from a binge and get back on track is a victory. Everytime we log in and receive encouragement, share our successes and our failures, and encourage someone else, is a victory. Keep coming back.

I am under 200lbs !!!! So happy today! And a picture to prove it! I have not weighed under 200 since 8th grade.

I am in shock I still cannot believe it. And my mother was so nice today and came all the way to my work and brought me flowers to congratulate me on being under 200. :-) It was so sweet of her to do. She knows how much it means to me.

:w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t:

Now I don't know what my next goal should be. :-) Any ideas? What is everyone doing for goals? I am thinking 10lbs at a time so maybe 190. :-) thoughts?

Have you had your third fill ? If so how are things going with that.

You are so right we must NEVER take for granted any small accomplishments we make during this journey. Every small step leads to a big step. Thanks for being so encouraging.

Keam, when you swallow too big a sip or too big a bite and the bite has not been well chewed, you will feel a tightness and a need to burp but you can't kind of feeling. You might even experience pain. If you overfill the pouch you will feel very uncomfortable under your rib cage like there's no room. You will wish you could throw up and you may burp it up. I find I have to take a tiny swallow, force a burp, take a tiny swallow, force a burp etc in order to get things down comfortably. That's what it feels like when the restriction is new. Over time the band will loosen and this won't happen as much, and it won't happen at all if you eat slider food and drink for a half hour before or after the meal. Stick to high density Protein and very small amounts of carbs and don't drink for half an hour before or after meals and you will maintain your sense of restriction much longer.

Thank you so much for the information I think I do have that sometime so I gues I do have a little restriction with this second fill I am getting another in a few weeks so I should really feel something then. I am not sure how big my realize band is but my first fill was 6cc and my second was 3cc so I have a total of 9cc so maybe my band is an 11cc band.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
