Soup ideas for post op phase?

Recommended Posts

So I'm allowed clear fluids for 10 days after my op but the only kind of Soups that I can think of that are clear and can fit thru a straw (has to be the consistency to fit through a straw) are chicken noodle Soup (packet kind) without the noodles and french onion Soup (packet kind.) I'm pretty sure I can't survive for 10 days on just those 2 Soups lol so if anyone has any recipes or can even link me to another part on this forum where theres some because I can't find any I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

These Soups are fantastic and smooooth. I have been eating them since the start of week 2 post op with no problems. There are plenty of different flavors to choose from which is also nice.

Make your own veggie broth. Think of the possibilities. I was only on clears for 4 days, and then on full liquids for 7. Once on full liquids I went to town on the cream Soups. The health food store had so many awesome flavors to choose from. I didn't feel slighted in the least.

that's also when I started on the egg drop Soup for the Protein. I LOVE the stuff. Those yogurt smoothies at the grocery were nice too. Once I got to mushies I was real creative.

This is for the mexican food lover...

Not sure if it's all ok with your Dr...so double check...

Ingredients

Cambells southwest Corn Soup

Can of refried Beans

1 Avacado

2 slices of an onion

Throw that all into a blender until smooth. Pour your portion into a microwavable bowl, heat it up and oh yum! It's like burrito soup. It's really filling too. I can eat about 1/2 a cup and then I am good for several hours.

It totally tastes like a real meal even though my daughter says "Oh yuck Mom are you eating mud again?" ha!

Well after the post-op liquid diet you shouldn't be eating any Soups or at least not the liquid. That counts as part of the no drinking with meals.

I was prepped for a week of Clear Liquids postop. I like to cook and was not happy thinking about a week of Clear Liquids and the lack of variety. So I made 3 of my favorite soups: french onion made with beef broth and madeira, I made a chicken tortilla Soup and a honey baked ham and bean with some cayenne and molasses added.

Then I did one of the hardest things ever - I strained all the solids out. I was left with some of the absolute best broth Soups ever. The chicken tortilla had a minimal amount of sediment from the diced tomatoes I had added - but it was ok - very close to clear.

My freezer was completely stocked with tupperwares full of these and then I had made some pureed soups as well for the next stage.

I about laughed out of my chair when my dr said I was only going to do clears for 2 days, soft for the rest of the week and by the end of week 2 would be on solids. :mad2:

My actions above were pretty wasteful - and you could probably get a similar effect by just starting with the broths and adding seasonings but I was really impressed with the flavor and never once minded eating clears. I never let the extra broths go to waste I just used them as bases for other soups and meals.

Good Luck!

Man, that sounds like a great way to make a fortune. I would so seriously pay through the nose for some home-made clear broth I can eat this week!

My favs so far are this:

Campbells Select Soups in the box, the swouthwest and corn chodwer are awesome. They are week two foods though. Like it or not your body ONLY needs liquids for one-two weks post op. Don't cheat it's worth it. Then start using these and get creative. I also like strainig the campbell's chicken and sausage gumbo, just having the broth. Nice change of pace. It's actually very satisfying.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
