10 days liquids/10 days mushies?

Recommended Posts

When I went for my post-op on Thursday, the NP told me I could begin mushies on Tuesday, which would be 10 days from my surgery date. He said to do 10 days of mushies and then to start regular foods...

Is this standard? For some reason I remember doing 14/14 and reading the board it seems like that's the norm. Has anyone else done 10 and 10?

Thank you!

That's why so many of us keep saying "we're all different" and "check with YOUR doctor"...because, we are all different!

You apparently are either healing well, or have a doctor who feels the 14 days (or 21, or 42 as I've read) is excessive! Just count yourself lucky and enjoy the mushies!

Yeah, what Restless said. All are different. Mine required 7 days of liquids, then on day 8 I was allowed a soft scrambled egg. Just be thankful and enjoy your full liquids. Life is good!

Thanks guys! I just want everything to go perfect this time around...I think I'm going to take it very easy on mushies for the first 4-5 days just to make sure I'm not pushing it and then I'll get into the tuna salad, etc. Until then, sf/ff pudding and thinned out/pureed Soups are going to have to cut it... Thanks again!

hi i was also banded by Dr.Fielding on 2/28. I was told 10 days of liquid too. Tomorrow i start mushies, and i am nervous. I also want to start off slow.I am horrified about getting anything stuck,i have been even xtra carefull w/my liquids.(sip, sip, sip) I did very well on the liquids and i have good restriction. This was the first time in a long time not messing up, i didn't have anything but liquids.(Nothing w/sugar). I made up my mind before the surgery no matter what i am going to follow the directions.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
