Clear Lake Area

Recommended Posts

I'm in the Baytown Area, but I drive to Clear Lake for just about everything. I would love a support group. I am a Spivak patient also. I work full time but could meet in the evening. I've had two fills and I'm hoping to stick with this as long as possible. I have meds I need to take and a tighter fill would complicate it. So far, so good.

Help....I am planning on attending one of Dr. Spivak seminars in September. I have a lot of health problems. Do I check with my insurance first or do Dr. Spivaks office need to send them my medical history after my consultation?

I am in Friendswood also and considering the band and Dr. Spyvik. I am so nervous though. I don't even know what a port is. I am new on this site but would love to get some feedback as to what you first felt after the surgery and what is a darn port????? Also, is the band taken off after the weight has been lost?

Hi!

I'm in La Porte, just down the road! I have had my band for a little over a year. Dr. Spivak (or St. Spivak as I think of him) did the honors. He is wonderful and his staff are great. I'm a slow loser. I have lost 70 lbs with another 70 to go.

The band is not a magic bullet. I found that out when Girl Scout Cookies arrived last year! I have a terrible sweet tooth and that has been my undoing several times. Also, whatever it is that caused you to be overweight might still be in your life. You will need to deal with that.

That being said, I am still so happy that I had the surgery! It was caused me to more mindful of my eating and enables me to get a good start on this weight loss.

My port is located just under my sternum. It can be easily felt with your fingers. It feels like it's about 2" across. It reminds me of the squeaker in a toy. You know how you can feel around for the squeaker in order to squeak it? It kind of seems like that, except that you can only touch one side of it (that, and I haven't squeaked so far!).

I don't know about what happens post weight loss. My sister had the surgery and it and at her goal weight. She is thinking of just having it unfilled, but leaving it there.

I would love to get together with some other folks in the area. It would be a great support.

Colleen

Does anyone know how long the band will last? I mean will it last 20 or 30 years? Does it eventually need to be replaced?

Mine hurt, but only because I got poked 2-3 times...the fill itself was odd feeling - you could feel the saline going in and making the band swell...!!

Meetings at the Barnes and Noble off of Beltway 8 near Fairmont. I went last week and it was great meeting other bandsters. I think I learned more that night than I learned all the months before. If anyone is interested in the Clear Lake area the meetings are every Thursday at 6PM. Come one, come all!

I live in League city and I will bebanded the beginning of January (or sooner, if everything falls into place!) I have two little kids so any support group I join would have to be kid friendly. Anyone have kids? Mine are 4 and 1 1/2.

We still have our meetings in Pasadena off the Beltway and Fairmont. We've moved it over the last few months to inside Target at the Barnes & Noble Cafe. Our meeting time is still 6PM every Thursday. There is also a new group that meets on Saturdays in Alvin once a month. I think the next meeting will be next Saturday, 10/20, at 1:30PM. They are having their 3rd meeting. They were meeting at the Chillis but I believe they have moved this months to a different location. If you are intersted in the Alvin I can find out the location.

Also, what does SAHM stand for?

In Pasadena we have group members who bring their children sometimes with no problem. The only problem is for the kids, they might get bored. We all love kids!

sahm means stay at home mom! I will love to come when my husband is home - he is a diver and is offshore a lot and I never really know if he will be home on a certain day.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
