Does everyone have stitches?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is a stupid question or not but here it goes.

Does everyone have stitches that need to be removed? I have read of some people going to have their stitches out, but others have never mentioned it.

just wondering

Lisa,

I have stitches but I do not have them removed. So no, not everyone has stitches that need to be removed.

I have disolvable ones - just the tail end sticks out - it gets a bit itchy as it heals, but they are mostly gone now.

I had the disolvable ones, w/ the ends sticking out, but it took several weeks (about 5, cause they were still there when I got my first fill) before they went away altogether.

My glue is gone and most of my scabs are gone too - but, I have a piece of what looks like fishing line (appx 1/4 inch) sticking out of the end of my largest scar. Is this a dissolvable stitch? If so, how long does it take to dissolve?

Parvathi - is that what yours looked like?

Kind of a glue/betedine over the whole stomach area. No steri-strips. Could shower right away.

I had glue and steri-strips, my surgery was 10 days ago, all the steri-strips have

came off except on the port.

Steri-strips for me. As you can see, each doctor is different, and some doctors may use different closing methods for different patients. Ask your doctor to see what he/she has in mind.

GLUE! And I loved it! My scars look as small as little mosquito bites and even my port scar is hardley visible unless you get into "partner" range

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
