Difference between 3 & 6 month diet with Aetna?

Recommended Posts

Good morning!

I had a question as to what the difference is between the three and six month diets that you must complete for approval using Aetna insurance.

Thank you very much :rolleyes::confused3:

I have Aetna as well, and am wondering the same thing!! I did see in another post, that it was the discretion of your doc...wonder if thats true? I sure would love only 3 months!

I read the online info that the insurance company told me to read and it confused me even more. Hopefully someone will answer who has experience :rolleyes: It's all so confusing!!!

I feel very fortunate that my surgeon's office is a multi-disapplainary office. I am able to do the 3 month multi-dis. :( I was very confused until I found them. It can be done on your own, however. I am seeing their doc once a month--he knows exactly what to put in the file. I see their dietician once a month--love her and she's all about the surgery (duh, or she wouldn't have a job there). I also am doing a "medically supervised" exercise program through the cardio rehab with their community program. They have therapists there the whole time. Of course I'm doing the other things my surgeon wants--EKG, psych eval, yada yada.

I asked the insurance lady at my surgeons office exactly what to do and she was a big help and very reassuring as to what Aetna will accept. She told me with her experience that the med. sup. exercise has to be with a therapist and not curves or just a gym membership. Also I don't have to do weight watchers or something like that cuz of the dietician putting together a plan--2 birds with one stone.

There is a whole discussion on the forum board under insurance. It was an old convo I read so it's probably far in the back.

Good Luck

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
