PLEASE help me and my relationship with the scale!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I need your help. I already know what I'm suppose to do, yet I CANNOT DO IT! Every single day, at the same time, same way, I MUST weigh myself..UGH :tt1:

Every night (I don't eat after 6:00pm) when I get hungry, I think, NO, the scale will reward me tomorrow. And only about every 3 days does the scale move.

I KNOW I shouldn't weigh myself everyday, but I CAN'T HELP myself :)

Please intervene and break me of this habit which I know can have a huge affect on my mental attitude. Worse still, it's a very expensive digital one that weighs partial ounces so I can count everything...:)

I don't see anything wrong with weighing yourself every day. I do this every morning. The thing is that I let the number go. I don't let what the scale reflects ruin my day.

If your weighing yourself daily and it is making you feel bad about yourself, then put the scale in a place that is out of eye-sight.

Personally, I am more interested in how lose my clothes feel on me and how many inches I am losing too. When my clothes feel baggy that just brightens up my day more so than what any number on the scale projects.

Ha Ha tag you're it!! I posted about this earlier because I know where I am headed. Started my pre-op diet today and I guess I will have to have that scale hidden until Fri. I have told myself that during this time I will only weigh on Mon. and Fri. when I get up. Today I have fought well for the pass few hours however I don't think I will do that well tomorrow. Whenever you think you want to get on the scale just scream 'NITERUN", maybe that will keep you off while you laugh at yourself and me.

I weigh myself every morning...PRE-SHOWER!!! It's funny the little tricks that i've learned...I can actually tell you how much I weigh before and after I do number 1 and/or number 2...how sad is that?!?

PS - For those of you wondering...it's always better to weigh yourself BEFORE you eat and BEFORE you shower and AFTER going number 1 and number 2...that's always a winning combo for a low score...er...weight...kind of like a video game :)

What is "going number 1 and number 2"?

GuyMontag - love your helpful hints :tongue2:I made a commitment to myself to weigh only once a week. My surgery was on a Thursday so I weigh every Thursday morning - pre-shower, pre-Breakfast, after other stuff....I knew that I too would want to weigh every morning. So, I put the scale in an upstairs bathroom - not my bathroom. My mood is definitely impacted by that scale. Thankfully my Thursdays have been good days - leading into good weekends.

Best wishes for you. Each of us figures out what works best for us - with trial and error and success.

Like I said on the other thread, I have to have the hubs hide the scale. I am obsessed with it otherwise. He brings it out on Sunday mornings and that's it. It's the only thing that works...for me. If it's out, I'm on it several times a day and even though I know it's natural to weigh more throughout the day, it's grounds for me to beat myself up.

I weigh myself everyday too. Every morning after going to the loo, and in the nuddy. And I have learnt to expect a 1/2 kilo (about 1-2lbs) difference here and there, but on average I want to be the same weight at least two days in a row to accept that it's my new 'lowest' weight. And as long as I don't display more than that 0.5kg variance I know I'm on the right track.

I actually like weighing myself everyday too. I reckon it's a great reminder to tackle each day's challenges and come out the other end feeling better for it. It spurs me onto exercise too - because after a session on my spin bike, I'm almost guaranteed a loss in the next few days!

I weigh most every day, too, and use it as another tool in this process.. It either keeps me validated or gets me motivated. I agree with the other people who give tips about when to weigh... It's amazing how much difference those little things can make.. I also know I have to wait until I've been up for a little while. I wake up puffy. I usually can't get my rings off right after I get up.. So I wait until the start loosening up.. Don't know why I retain fluids overnight.... Just some of the tricks.. But I, too, try not to let the number upset me if it isn't what I want. It is especially hard to do this when you are stuck for a long period of time.. I have been for 2 weeks now and the only good thing is that the number isn't moving upward!!!! You'll figure it out and do what is best for yourself.... good luck to you.. Julie

Thanks for all the replies! I just had to laugh reading them. I too wake up, walk around for at least 10 mins, go to the bathroom and weigh myself naked. I also wake up puffy and feel like I need to move around to "redistribute" the weight. i am REALLY going to try and just weigh once a week, but I dunno...its SO tempting!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
