Hypothyroidism, possible mild-PCOS, and having a tough time

Recommended Posts

Ok I was banded in July of 2008. It's been 7 months and I've only lost 40lbs. It started off fast and quick and for the last 5 months I've been stuck at 225-ish. I went down to 215 when my doctor started me on metformin, as I believe I might have slight Insulin Resistance(he's a bad doc, didn't really explain). I've gone up to 223 again. I haven't been taking my metformin as I should, but when I do take it my blood sugar feels low and it almost increases my hunger. Also this same doctor has my thyroid at 3.77.

I heard back in 2003 they changed the levels to normal between .3 and 3.0?

Anyway I'm getting cold very often and my moods are fluctuating. My hair is also getting very brittle. My mind has been starting to get foggy again too. So I'm thinking 3.77 isn't the best number for me.

I also haven't had a fill since September. It's been kind of stressful that last few months, school, work, life in general, and the sudden death of my grandfather.

I know I don't exercise and my food choices could be better, but I'm still not gorging. I also have tried to keep more active in my day to day life, taking stairs, getting up and moving around more. I've never been an exerciser, my family never exercised, and I want this to be long term so I'm trying to change VERY slowly so I never fall back into these patterns and I know if I start out exercising everyday, I'll stop by the end of the week and wont't start again for months. Right now I'm at about 15 minutes 3 times a week.

Anyway I'm just looking for opinions or even someone else who has had to deal with hypothyroidism and PCOS and not losing...

I was banded in late May 08 and have only lost 40. I wish I had an excuse, I don't. I am at 6cc but for me I have gotten very lax. I got excitied about getting into size for 14 for the first time in over 30 years. And now make some dumb food choices. You have medical problems that you will have to work through. Is it fair no way. I wouldn't worry about a fill until you better. If it takes a few months don't worry about it. You will always be able to fill later, that's the great thing about the band. Good luck to you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
