Anyone from or near Morgantown?

Recommended Posts

I go to the informational seminar tomorrow and was wondering if anybody else has had their surgery done at Ruby Memorial in Morgantown. Dr. Ehab Akkary is the surgeon there and I havent heard much about him. If anybody has any info it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks. Well I went to the seminar and really like Dr. Akkary. And might I add he's pretty good looking IMO...lol. Found out that my insurance wont accept Ruby right now because its not a center of excellence. They are in the provisional stages right now and should have it by August. Just in time for me to finish up the 6 month supervised diet. So I have an appointment with Dr. Akkary and the dietician on March the 4th. Finally, the ball is rolling.

aliciaj,

I am from Morgantown, I had my surgery done by Dr. Akkary at WVU. I want to tell you that he is SOOOOOO AWESOME! We just love him.:) (my husband thinks he is so cooool) He will take the time to talk with you and make sure you uderstand what is happening. He also has a wonderful bedside manner.

You will meet with Ann the dietician she will help you a lot. She is SO BIG on keeping food logs. (so start keeping those logs)

You will also work Dorrine in the insurance department she is great to work with.

Best wishes on your adventure!

Thank you for the info!! I really enjoyed him at the seminar. He has a nice personality and a sense of humor as well. If you dont mind I'd like to ask some questions. How long did the process take for you? How often do you see Dr. Akkary himself? Does he do the fills also? Im sure I'll have alot more questions for you...lol.

Ask as many questions as you like. I will try to answer them.

How long did the process take? Well, it took a LONG time because I began the process under another Dr. (Dr. Longie) he left WVU and they did not have a Dr to do the Lapband. I waited over a year. But now things go pretty quick.A lot depends on your insurance. So that questions is one that I am unable to give you a good answer.

How often do I see Dr. Akkary? After you meet with him in March you may not see him again until you get closer to your surgery date. Then you will see him between 1-2 weeks after surgery as a follow up. Then your first fill is about 4 weeks after surgery then about every six weeks you will see him either for a fill or a follow up. More often than not you will also see Ann during those visits.

Does he do the fills? Yes, he is the only one that has done my fills.

I can tell you this Dr. Akkay and his staff are all about making your Journey successful.

Oh yeah if you haven't started an exersice program you should think about starting one. If you just begin walking a little each day and keep record of that.

Hope this information is helpful. What time is your appointment if you don't mind me asking. You may want to plan on being there for a while!

Thanks again. My appointment is at 8am with Ann and 8:30 with Dr. Akkary. The psychologist there doesn't accept my insurance so I have to find one that will. Doreen sent me a list of some other psychologist that may, but i'm not that familiar with morgantown. I live about 10 minutes from the wv border in a town called Fairchance in PA. So, i'm trying to find a doc around here that will do it.

Oh that is good that your appointment is early. You will not get trumped by surgerys that ALWAYS makes Dr. Akkary to run behind. Therefore you may luck out and get out of there pretty quick.

You don't live far from Morgantown. I lived at Cheat Lake for about 20 years and now live closer to Fairmont. I live about 20 minutes from WVU. But work just across the street for the hospital, so that makes it nice for Dr appointments.

Good luck on finding someone to do your psyc evaluation.

Please keep me posted.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
