Hi all:

I just joined this forum the other day. I live in the Birmingham area and am learning and researching before I get this done. I'm looking at getting it done in Tijuana due to the cost savings and since I never seem to be insured long enough to get an insurer to pay for it in the US. Any Alabamans get theirs done out of the country?

Having my surgery in Tijuana April 6. Wife had hers done there in Nov. She paid $8000 and I'm paying $7500 because of 2nd surgery. I've seen it for cheaper and they are probably good but I know you could not ask for a better clinic. Our Doctor is Dr. Ortiz at the Obeciety Control Center. Dr. Dewitt in Birmingham is doing my wifes fills and I will use him also. My wife said Dr. Dewitt told her he did the surgery for $11,500. She was really pleased with him. PM me if you would like more info on Mexico. We would be glad to help. Best of luck.

I am having my surgery at the OCC on March 25th. I simply got tired of fighting the insurance battle. It looks like they will win at all cost so I decided to go to Mexico. I am paying $7300.00. By the time I file that on my taxes next year I will come out probably better than if I had used insurance. I was just not willing to wait until 2011 for them to approve it. There is a fill center in Roswell, GA that is affiliated with Dr. Ortiz but I will be going back to Mexico at least for my first fill. I started my preop diet yesterday. It would not be so bad if it were not for the dang headache I have. I weighed yesterday morning and again this morning. I promise I am telling the truth but the scale may be lying. It shows that I have lost almost 4lbs. Now, I am sure it is just Fluid but I will take it. It sort of makes the headache worth it. Anyway, I will be glad to answer any questions about my surgery and the whole process. I would like to keep in touch with local people having the surgery at the OCC as well.

Kim

I found a fill center here in Birmingham that will do fills for Mexican lap bands. I can provide the info if you want.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
