erosion only after 5 months?

Recommended Posts

My husband had lap band surgery Sept 5, 2008 4 days after surgery he had a high fever of 102.5 and aching everywhere. went to the dr. (who did the surgery) he siad had the flu. in the hospital twice by Nov. with same complications. high fever, aches, Fluid in lower left stomach and left sholder pain. Long story short he was taken to the hospital Feb. 5 and surgery to remove band feb. 6. We were told he had 1 1/2 hole in his stomach. (erosion) but how could this happen so fast all I have read has happened in yrs after the surgery. I believe this happened a the time of the first surgery in Sept. and now they just say it is erosion of the band. Has anyone else had such problems early on? Thank you for your time

:tongue2::confused::tt2::confused:

I am shocked it happened so quickly. I am also saddened that he had problems from the get go and it took them so long to diagnose the situation, especially considering that he had a recurring problem that kept showing up.

I have to wonder if there was a problem with the initial attachment. My heart goes out to you and your husband.

I forgot to mention, there is a section on complications in this forum. Perhaps you can do a search on erosions to see what has been discussed in the past.

Thank you for your info. I will check out the other forums. Your pictures look great and good luck with the future. My husband has lost 68lbs but it is more from being so sick for 5 months than the band itself! He would get a fill and then within 3 hours his fever ould be up to 102. and go back (2hour trip one way) to have the fill taken out and about 4 days later he would be fever free but still in some pain.

Thanks again and GOD Bless.:thumbup:

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
