Hi Everyone!

One week from tomorrow, February 23rd, I am scheduled to begin the rest of my life. I am a tad nervous, but anxious to take one big step closer to a more comfortable existence. I truly believe that the decision I have made is the right one for me and seems like a better choice than having my lips sewn together . . . . . .

I am a 61 year old retiree who needs to go back to work to get a day off!! I have a travel business that I devote an incredible amount of time to and I am so blessed to be able to now do what I enjoy so much! I am a people person. I find that my weight is affecting my quality, and that I will not tolerate. I hate having my picture taken, but when you are in charge of a group, people always want you in their pictures.

At 61 tube tops and mini skirts are out . . . let me repeat that . . . !!! and truly all should be thankful for that little tidbit! But, it sure would be fun to go clothes shopping and not go directly to the plus sizes, the very last size on the rack, and simply pick out something that is "OK" and probably will fit.

Well, I hope that you all will not mind my joining in and sharing my journey to a better me.

Welcome to LapBandTalk!

I think it's great that you are having the surgery so you can enjoy your retirement. Your post reminded me of another "I got my life back" moment -- I get right in the first row with the other shorties when it's time for the group picture instead of hanging back and hoping someone will get in front of me and hide my body.

Thank you Mac!! Your journey is going so well, congrats!! and I'll bet you no longer mind being in the front row for a picture.

Your photo of you with your bike, that is one of my goals! I can't wait until I can go biking and my butt cheeks don't hang down to the middle of the back tire on either side of the seat . . . ewwww, now there's a visual!!

I hope to post my journey, the good, bad and ugly!

Lizz

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
