during your fill with flouroscope.....

Recommended Posts

did you see your pouch?? How did it look? I had my fill yesterday, not that bad an experience, except for the part of seeing a huge needle sticking out of my belly. Anyway, my pouch seemed pretty big. Just wanted to know if anyone saw theirs, what it looked like.

Oh yeah, he put in about 4cc's, and then pulled out some and left a total of 1.5 cc's in there. I feel some restriction, but nothing major.

My doc video tapes the fluoroscopy procedure, and then gives the tape to the patient. So yes, I have seen my pouch, and have 4 video tapes of fills!

When filled with barium I thought the pouch looked bigger than I expected, but when I'm totally closed off, the pouch size is only two large swallows of barium big, which is pretty small in reality.

It's funny you should ask this. I had the same initial thought looking at my stomach on the screen, but then I realized that the perspective was not what I thought. How did I know that? I could see the clips of my bra up there on the screen, and they were HUGE! So I got to compare the pouch and band with the clips on my bra, and that's when I realized how small the pouch really is.

Plus, as Donali mentioned, there was no question that it took only three good-sized swallows to fill me up completely when the stoma was closed. THAT was very enlightening.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
