How long do you stay out of work?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 1-29, and feel pretty good so far. I am wondering how long people stay out of work for. I work in a dual role where I can do light duty or lifiting. I am thinking two weeks.

Check with your Doctor some require longer out of work stay because of lifting. My doctor said no lifting over 10 lbs for 5-6 weeks. I am a secretary so I went back to work in one week wich I could have taken longer. Ask your doctor and follow what he recommends and be honest about how much you lift. Good Luck.

I was instructed not to lift anything over 10-pounds for several weeks.

I stayed home for 2-weeks and really felt great on day 7-post op, but was glad to have more time off to recover fully. I have a stationary desk job.

I sit most of the day so I stayed out four days and returned on Friday to work with meds. After seven days I felt like myself again, but with restrictions to lifting and bending.

I work in a retail showroom so I am on my feet a lot during the day. I went back to work one week post op. I was pretty tired by around 2. I went home early the first day and I took a nap in the break room the second day.

After 2 weeks I felt pretty much back to normal.

I was banded on 1/16/09 and went back to work 1/20/09. I was off 3 days but would have only been 2 if Monday had not been a holiday. I work at a desk all day and don't lift. I felt great a little tired at the end of a 10 hour shift but with very little Protein I expected that. Everyone is different in this category for sure.

I was back at work two days after surgery, with only the most minimal pain medication. (I could have done without the meds, in fact.) I sit at a desk, so there is nothing physical involved, but I didn't feel in the least constrained or uncomfortable. I recall tiring a bit easier than usual, but even that wasn't much. I obviously was on the lucky side here, though my experience suggests that you might end up being pleasantly surprised at how easy the post-op period will be.

I have a desk job without lifting, I went back in 1 week but only did 5-6 hours a day until the second week when I went back to my usual 9 hours/day. I could not have stayed at home longer than 1 week!

I had surgery on Thursday and went back to work on Saturday. I work in the medical field and we didn't have patients, but I had to do some sterilization and patient charting.

Surgery early on a Tuesday morning, back to work for 2 hours Wednesday afternoon, back to work full time Thursday.

Actually, I felt great 4 hours after surgery, no pain medication.

I guess malingering is not in my vocabulary.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
