Any February 16th bandsters?

Recommended Posts

a couple weeks to go now... yay!

I noticed from other threads that there are a few of us getting banded 02/16, let's stay in touch here if we can.

I'm going to Dr. Ortiz in TJ, Mexico. How about you? i've been pretty excited for the past few weeks since i booked it, but now i'm getting nervous. i have a million thoughts running through my head: what if my liver's too big? what if i'm one of few who get complications? what if i can't adjust to the lifestyle changes?. i guess these are all normal thoughts before going under the knife....

anyways, despite all that, i'm still totally excited for the band to be in. i can't believe that in less than a month i'm getting banded!!! omg, to finally have hope of being thin and healthy...

Hi! I got the call today, my surgery is scheduled for the 16th. I'm going to Hamot hosp, in Erie, Pa. Dr. Ali is my Dr. I think i'm still in shock. It doesn't seem real yet.

Looking forward to getting to know all my fellow banders!

Pat

hi i am being banding on the 16th. been working on this since july 08. i am absolutely terrified. i can't even imagine how scary it would be to have to go to a foreign county and have an operation. i know that for the right amount of money u will get a good doc. would u have to stay in a mexican hospital if the doc wanted to keep u overnight? i wish u soo much luck. did anyone start their diet yet? i did yesterday and i am starving. i can't even think straight i am so hungry.

iwalktheline... my surgery's being done at a private clinic in Tijuana, not a hospital, and i'll be spending the night there too. from what other bandsters have told me, it's a beautiful facility and very professionally run. i'm not worried about that aspect at all. the fee includes 5 star hotel accomodations from me and a companion for 3 nights. It's a great deal, and far more affordable than what i'd pay for here at home.

how's everyone's pre-op going?

I guess I will be joining the Feb 16th gang. I was scheduled for Feb 2nd. I got all prepped for surgery, got all the holes poked in me, and they cancelled it. My potassium was in the tank. :)

Soooo, if I can get my potassium up to human type levels, my doc has me penciled in for the 16th.

Hugs,

This is my first post so I have no idea if I am doing it correctly or not! I am scheduled for surgery on 2/16. I'm excited but a bit scared too. I don't like the idea of being "put out" for any period of time. I have gone under the knife before, so I know that I don't react negatively to the drugs, but it's still scary to me. One of the gals at my support group reminded me that they do these things all the time and this is pretty routine. I keep telling myself that. But I have two small kids at home and it's overwhelming to think that something could go wrong. I know my fear is not enough to stop me from doing what needs to be done, but I'm still nervous. I've been on the diet since 2/1. Starving is an understatement. I have lost about 5 pounds in less than a week though. I'm currently 255lbs. So . . . wishing you all luck in February!

Good Morning fellow Bandsters!! Can ya'll believe we have 10 more day until bandland!! I'm soo excited, scared, nervous and happy. My best friend gave me some really good advice that I would like to share with everyone who is feeling what I'm feeling, "Think about why you are doing this and that the benefit is greater than the pain, the pain will only last a few days, but if your serious about losing this weight you will benefit a lifetime from this." Everytime I feel anxiety about this I think about what she said to me. I hope that helps anyone. I will be banded by Dr. Adam Smith of the Fort Worth Lapband. Good luck everyone and keep in touch!

I am being banded on the 16th by Dr. Brown in Denver. I can't believe its a week away. I start my pre-op diet of liquids Friday. I tried a Protein Shake today and couldn't get it all down. I started the day out with a shake, an approved yogurt from the list, my Vitamins, and some broth. By the time evening came, my body was having some withdrawls of food and I had a horrible headache. Glad my pre-op will be over the weekend so I can rest the headaches out. Can't do that teaching!

ONE WEEK TO GO!!!

Thought I'd check in and see how you're all doing...

I'm actually pretty pumped, as long as I don't listen to the million voices running around in my head LOL:). I'm glad there's only a week left to this pre-op. In a way, I think it'd be easier to just have liquids (like the post op) instead of the agony of shakes and one LF/LC meal. That meal is simply not satisfying and leaves me craving more. If I knew I couldn't chew anything for days, it would be way easier and I wouldn't be tempted to cheat.

6 more days! i know what you mean about wanting to cheat. I swear this past weekend there was so much temptation but I stayed strong! I hope it is easier on the post-op. Hope everyone is doing good!

Hi gang!! Hope everyone is doing well!!

Things seem to be looking up over here!

YAY! I got in to see my primary care physician after all!

Got some shiny new meds. So hopefully that fixes everything!

As soon as I got home from the pharmacy, my surgeon's office called, giving me the time I am supposed to report to the hospital on MONDAY!

So, assuming my potassium is back up to normal levels, I should be having my surgery on the 16th @ 1:30pm!!!

I am cautiously optomistic! If I have to go thru another dress rehearsal, I wll smack someone! LOL!

Hugs,

it's almost 3 in the morning and i can't sleep!!! i have a million thoughts running through my head right now. my period is 2 weeks late (no i'm not preggers) so for all i know i'll have it on my surgery... not thrilled about that at all. i'm trying to get organized for this trip and i keep thinking i'm forgetting something. i keep reading old threads about what to pack and what to do post op. i feel like i'm getting a bit OCD right now with the amount of time i'm spending re-checking things.

what the heck have i gotten myself into?!?! must breathe... what happened to my formerly poised and in-control-ish self? evidently, i'm more freaked out about the surgery than i thought.

crazy person signing off,

thanks for listening

I know exactly how you feel Babe!! I think I may be on my "days" during surgery too!! I wasn't hoping that I would've started this past week but no luck! I think with you, it might be the stress and excitement that may be making you late. So when do you leave for mexico?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
