Hello everyone, I have my 1st appointment on 08/12..YEAH!!!!!!!!!

At my DR's information seminar, he says he requires all 2 week all liquid diet, prior to the operation. How many of you had to do a full 2 weeks? How will I get through it outside of wiring my teeth shut? HELP

Felicia, Yes I had to do it also! My surgeon said 10 days of mostly Clear Liquids. I could have 3 cups of skim milk a day also. But my surgery was put off for 4 days so I had to do a 14 day liquid HELL! It was very hard but I did it!! :) Didn't even cheat once. I just knew that if I did cheat that my surgeon would find out and cancel my surgery. Who knows but it helped me!! You can do It!!! Just think of the weight you will lose before surgery? I lost 11 lbs in that 14 days.

You can do it!! You can do it!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Good luck on your new Journey!!

AGAIN, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I was supposed to do it too. I did pretty well - slipped a few times, but my doctor didn't cancel my surgery because of it. I was only able to lose about 4 pounds prior to surgery. We were told, if you can't totally stick to the liquids, then NO carbs, just eat some Protein. It'll be hard, but you can do it.

I did a 12-week liquid fast back in 1990. It's really not as hard as you think it's going to be; if you really stick to it completely the hunger pangs disappear after a couple of days. I found not eating at all to be easier than trying to eat just a little bit. And it's astonishing how fast the pounds will melt away, so if you are motivated by that you may find this a task worth doing right. Good luck!!

I had to do 3 weeks of Optifast (shakes) prior to surgery. I'll admit I slipped up a few times, but I did lose a couple of pounds before surgery, so I was happy with that.

I know 2 weeks may seem like a long time, but the reason they ask you to do that is to shrink your liver a bit. A fatty liver can cause all kinds of complications in surgery and its better safe than sorry.

Good luck with it all - you'll do fine :)

I know that it will be hard, but take everyone's advice and take it one day at a time. We are only human. Just think of the big picture and what your reward will be a new leaner you and a new way of life. Good Luck and keep us posted. We are here for you.

It isn't easy, but you can do it...my surgeon took digital pictures during the surgery, and there was my liver, nice and clean and fat free! He says he can tell from that if a patient has a good chance of being successful...so show your dr. you can do it! Courage! Cindy

Just do your best. I didn't have to do the liquid fast, but I was told to stick to a low cal diet beforehand. I crashed n' burned. I hated admitting it to my surgeon in fear he wouldn't operate, but he was very forgiving and said the Band would help me.

I agree. The first 3 days are the hardest, after that it is so much easier I didn't want to cheat because I knew the hunger pangs would be back.

You CAN do it! Keep your hands and mouth busy, drink a lot of Water and get some nice teas.

We'll all send some sympathy pains your way!

I did Optifast for about 5 months back in 1987, I lost weight the only pain in the rear was the blood work that I had to do. I do know that if I had had to drink it without equal I don't think I could have gotten it down. From what I understand they also have Soup and ready make drinks now. They didn't have that when i did it. It's really not that bad, after about 3 days you stop being hungry.

You guys are totally right. I'll just have to buckle down and show my Dr that I can do it. Maybe I'll buy some Optifast or something similar, because my DR say's he does it because it shrinks the liver and it also shows your comittment. If you gain as much as 1lb during the 2 weeks, he will cancel your surgery and I will not make it that far just to fail. My appointment is friday and I will let you all know how it went.....Thanks a million

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
