Not at restriction, not losing and Having pain

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 10/29/08. Starting 2 weeks b4 my surgery I had to be on a full liquid diet and that lasted until 2 weeks after my surgery and then to musshy food. Between 10/15 and 11/10 I lost 24 pounds. I have maybe lost 2 lbs since then. I actually gained a couple and since Jan 1 have lost maybe 3 lbs. I have had 2 fills - one on 12/1 for 3 ccs and one on 12/28 with 2 more cc's. At first after the last fill - i felt restricted but that was probably because of the fill causing swelling or something right after. I watch what I eat and I want to start journaling online - need a recommendation on that. BUT I AM frustrated with no weight loss. Not to mention I need to start exercising. For the last 5 days I am having what I believe to be Gall Bladder pain and it hurts down by my port as well. Please someone tell me that I am not going nuts. I mean based on how I am eating I would think I would be losing weight. I am Diabetic - but my diabetes AC1 test took me from 9 to 6.6 which is excellent - so that is good news. I am Insulin resistant. I need a buddy or something. My mother constantly asks me how my weight loss is going - like it should just be falling off. I have been trying to tell her that I am not at restriction - so this is just me doing this. My band holds 11 ccs I think and I am at 5. I just need some guidance from someone who has gone thru this as well. Vitamins I could take - besides the multi or something. I got my Wii Fit out of the box and will start using tomorrow morning. Help!!!!! I need help and cannot wait to help others once I have this down - but I do not have it down. I do not eat to the point of stuffed. I am now rambling........ Help!:cursing:

If you are not at restriction yet then it is very difficult. You've only had two fills so far. Maybe you'll hit your sweet spot on the third fill.

I strongly suggest that you start journaling your food intake. Sometimes we just don't notice how much we're eating unless we write everything down. I think there's a website called dailyplate.com Try that one, or there's others too.

In addition, exercise will help. Not only does it burn calories, but it keeps you away from the fridge.

Best wishes to you. Let me know if you have more questions. I hope you already have another fill scheduled with your doctor. Mine said we could have it done every week after the first couple until we hit our sweet spot. I think I hit the sweet spot on my third fill, but I have a small band.

Talk to your doctor about your gallbladder pain too. It may need to come out. I had mine out 9 mos. after lap band.

Take care.

I love my band!

Sue

It is frustrating to feel like this. I am 6 months out and have hit a plateau in the last 3 weeks. Prior to this, though, I lost about 2-3 lbs per week.

I use fitday.com to journal my food. You may find that you aren't eating enough, or that you are eating more calories than you thought you were. Both can hurt your weight loss efforts. I don't know what your dr recommends, but I eat 1200-1500 calories per day. It has worked for me up until now. NOW, I need to exercise to jump start my weight loss again.

As far as the pain goes, you need to see your dr about that. It may be gall bladder.

I am exactly the same way that you are. The only difference is I haven't had any fills yet. I had my surgery on 10/30/08 and I lose 22lbs 8 days after my surgery. Since then I probably lost about 5-7lbs more. But ever since about the end of Nov. I haven't lost anymore weight. I think I may have put another 1-2lbs back on, too. I will be getting my first fill on Feb 4th so I am hoping that that will help me a lot. According to other people that I know that has the same DR as me they say that he gives very good fills. I'm also like you in the way that I don't exercise like I should. I can't seem to stay motivated to exercise. I always get motivated the day before I decide "ok I'm gonna do what it takes to lose this weight" and then the next day rolls around and I don't wanna do anything. I know that we're kinda in the same boat so if you want we could try and be moral support to each other. My parents, especially my mom, always asks me about my weight loss too and it's very hard to tell them that it's not working right now. Especially when they don't understand the whole being restricted or not restricted thing. Anyways, I hope things start looking up for you and if you would like to stay in touch let me know and I'll give you my email address. Bye!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
