Constipation

Recommended Posts

In another thread, the problem of Constipation has come up. I decided it needed its own thread.

My doc warned me constipation was a possible problem, and this has proven to be very true. No matter how much liquid I consume, I'm stuck until I take a strong laxative.

Has anyone's doctor commented? I'm ready to call my doc soon as business hours start.

I asked my doc on my pre op consultation. He said that was very likely to happen and plan ahead with your liquid Fiber products like metamucil, ect. He perfer that first before the harsh chemicals. Now that said I have used and read on the band sites someone drinking tea. I have used deiters tea it works but be prepared for cramps. :(

Your doing awesome good luck to you. Holly

I have some Metamucil. I'll give that a try. The tea I have is Smooth Move. Normally, that's reasonably effective but lately hasn't helped much.

check with your doctor's office - I was told absolutely no Metamucil as it swells up. The one I am allowed to take is Benefiber. I put the powder in my Water twice a day and it enables me to go, however I am still working on figuring out to make it softer. ouch.

Okay. I used to take Miralax in my morning beverage and that worked reasonably well. (Took me awhile to find the reference in my old notes.) I've called Dr. Baptista and left a message.

Miralax has been recommended by a lot of doctors. It's not a harsh laxative. Benefiber helps a little for me, but not much. It gives me gas. I take a stool softner every day and try to eat a lot of veggies and a couple of prunes every day.

Okay, I just talked to my doc's office. When Metamucil is ineffective, try Benefiber or Miralax. Also, keep yourself well hydrated.

While Miralax is much more expensive, I think I'll go for that one. I've used it before and know it works well with my system. Why monkey around if you know something works?

But, while I'm there at the pharmacy, I think I'll buy a bottle of milk of magnesia, just in case.

Hi Oregondaisy!

Thanks for moderating, and congrats on reaching your goal. Mine seems so far away, right now. (sigh)

I have heard that Colace is a great over the counter remedy to Constipation and hard bm's. It is alot of times used for c-sections or natural deliveries since that area is so tender and the stomach muscles are so well worked. I'm not sure how it tastes but I hear it's very soothing and easy on the stomach. I am going to get it for my surgery.

I got the ok from my dr. to use Correctol and it took 3 days but it finally worked today...thank GOODNESS. I was beginning to think something was SERIOUSLY wrong with me LOL

Correctol is a small pink pill, so it was easy to swallow and you can take up to 3 in a 24 hour period.

My doctor told me to use benefiber. So I am using it and in one day, I was FREE.....Maybe I might have lost a little more weight! Do you think?

The benefiber doesn't do that and neither does miralax. Miralax and colace (or any stool softener) put Water in your stools so they don't cause cramps.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
