What a great post! I want to add a complaint -- I'm not getting enough wear out of my flats! See. . now that I've taken off 46 lbs, my feet no longer kill when I wear heels, so I've been wearing them much more often! My poor flats only get taken out half as often!

I want to be able to complain... I want to be able to complain to!! LOL I am at the start of my journey, but have lost 51.5lbs in the last 7 weeks and this is before getting my band. I was at 489 starting weight and looking to have the band sometime this August. One day I will be writing my own post like this and I cannot wait!!!

Great job on your success and you are another awesome role model for us all! Enjoy life to the "fullest" without overeating, of course!!!

I had my band almost a year ago and I have lost around 90 pounds. It's a great feeling. NO food ever tasted as good as being this pretty feels. Please, don't wait another moment because I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Through the port pain and the vomiting, I have never once regretted it. I do have a few complaints, though:

1. Clothes

I don't have any that fit. Twelve months ago, "my clothes don't fit" would have meant they were hugging me in all the wrong spots. Now I mean all my clothes are too big. My mom calls me "parachute pants" and it does not hurt my feelings. I have to spend hours upon hours shopping for new clothes in the mall. Since, now, I feel better about myself, I have to spend an additional half hour at the nail salon and hour at the hair dresser. How great! what is my complaint you ask? Well, I'm spending tons of money on clothse that are too loose next week. Sigh...

2. Reinforcement

I can't go anywhere these days without running into someone I know and them commenting on my appearance. "Wow! You look so much different!"... "How did you do it??"... "You look amazing!!"... that's just the beginning! Don't even get me started on the male attention!!! How great!! what is my complaint you ask? Well, all anyone wants to talk about it me and I like that a lot, but people only love me for my looks now! Sigh...

3. Mind

I used to think every time I went out that people were staring at me because I was so fat. Now I live a normal life. It's so nice. Before the lap band, I spent my down time thinking abut my next meal. I don't do that any more because I'm not obsessed with food. Now I get to read great books, watch cool movies and do so much more stuff... what is my complaint you ask? Well, now I have an occupied mind and sometimes I forget to eat! Sigh...

4. Money

A Lean Cuisene is a feast for me. Because of this, I have saved so much money. The month before I got the band, I spend $76.22 on fast food alone (pizza, tacos, fries, burritos, etc.)... and now I HAVE that money for myself! I spend this money on clothes that are from normal stores, bras from Victoria's Secret and getting my hair done... for me. (I can't begin to even think of all the time I wasted eating, too!)... what is my complaint you ask? Well, I'm spending more money than I can make because I'm so pretty I want to adorn myself... sigh...

5. Medications. I know a lot of you gals out there are on a lot of medications and are looking forward to getting the band to get rid of them. Well, I have some bad news. Since I got the band, I actually had to ADD a medication... well, that medication is birth control, but, you know... pills are pills. what is my complaint you ask? Well, that's a pill EVERY DAY! Sigh...

So, there you go. Just do it...

Thank YOU So much for that wonderful post!! I am about to be banded and I truly needed this!!)

HUGS,

Paulette

Hi I am considering getting the lap band . My first question is Can it slip off?

2) After you lose the weight can you get it removed?

I saw a woman getting plastic surgery and they had to work around the band because it had embedded itself into her stomach wall. The button thingy they inject the saline into. So I am a little nervous about getting something put inside my body. But I am almost 300 ponds and I have two little girls to chase and I am only 33. I believe I may be developing diabetes so I have plenty of reasons to get it. But I would like to know if it is safe.

Hi Tena,

As with any weight loss surgery, there are risks involved. Yes, there is always the possibility that the band can slip. There is always the possibility that it can erode into the stomach. Weight loss surgery should never be thought of as a "short-term" fix for obesity. Once the decision is made to have weight loss surgery, it has to be understood that it is a permanent decision. Theoretically, yes, the band could be removed after you lose weight, but if it were to be removed, you would end up gaining back all of your weight.

It is scary undergoing a drastic procedure such as this, but like many people here, I have yo-yo'd with my weight my entire life, and have tried just about every method to lose it. Yes, I succeeded a few times only to have it come back plus a whole lot more. I decided on the band, beCause I am 37, with no real comorbidities, except for the weight and sleep apnea, (thankfully), but I also know that the older I get the chances for other things to develop are so much higher. My husband and I also want to have another baby and with the band it would be safer than being pregnant with the RNY. I don't like the thought of my insides being re-routed, so I have opted to have the band surgery. I know that if I continue to try to lose weight on my own, I will not be successful.

So, in a nutshell, yes the band is A LOT safer than some of the other weight loss procedures. In the event something should happen, it can be removed or reveresed, whereas the other procedures cannot.

I hope this helps! Good luck,

Paulette

:thumbup:Thank You I am on the fence about it. I want to lose the weight but the thought of having something inside of my body for the rest of my life is a little scary. But you do make a valid point that it can be removed should anything happen. Not to mention the problems from being obese are worse. The funny part: I never had health issues till I got pregnant for my second daughter. Before her I was in perfect health even though I was over weight. I have heard of another weight lose option from Kevin Trudeau There are clinics that you can go to that have a proven method of helping you get the weight off and keeping it off. By resetting your body's way of working. Research Kevin Trudeau's book Secrets to weight loss they didn't want you to know. I would like to try this but I have no idea where the clinics are. Nor how expensive they are. Thank you though you have definitely given me something to think about.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
