I did something very gratifying today!!

Recommended Posts

Well it started out as being something very morbid. I'm having my surgery this Thursday, January 22nd and I was thinking that I didn't want my family to have to go through my closets all in disarry if I died during surgery. I told you it was morbid.

So, I started cleaning out my closets. I have two big walk-ins and they were crammed full of clothes in a wide, wide range of sizes. I weeded out everything that even if they fit, I would never wear (tapered ankles anyone?) and have routed them to Goodwill. I swear, I've been holding onto some things I haven't worn in over 15 years. The Goodwill pile was embarrasingly HUGE. :huh2:

Anyway, I ended up with one closet full of clothes that fit now or will within the next 15 lbs or so. And the other one full of clothes that will need a little more weight loss. I'm going to tell myself that I'm shopping when I dip into closet #2 since I'm trying to refrain. Some of the stuff in closet #2 is pretty cute!

The end result was some very organized closets and I'm all freshly motivated to get into some of those cute things in closet #2! I highly recommend the closet cleaning. It's very cathartic.

Happy, you've inspired me! I've got a month to go til S-day, and I hadn't really thought about my clothes much. But my closet is a disaster, so I think I'll follow your lead so I can go shopping in my own closet down the road. Thanks for the idea!

Congratulations! Your original reason was morbid, but you were smart. I found a few treasures in the back of my closet. I'm wearing one now!

I'd already weeded out the Goodwill pile, but now I have a pile of "mend and tailor" things, plus a pile of "I havent got the courage to see if I fit yet." (giggle) I'll be forced into it soon, though. Everything I normally wear is falling off!

I cleaned out my closet today. Well partially. I still have 2 boxes and a tote to go through (but, I already know they are size 16-18 and I am 22). I have a nice stack of pants that fit now, and a good stack of 20's. I will be fully clothed (thankfully) for quite awhile.

I wonder how long it takes to go from a 22 to a 16?

Wont it be so fun to wear these clothes again?

I think the size changes will vary by person. Body type, height, weight loss, etc. will all effect when you change sizes. I wear a size 18 from about 250-225. I'll hit a size 16 from about 225-205.

I haven't been below that in so long that I don't recall.

I did something very similar about a week before surgery. I had clothes in my closet that I would never wear no matter what my size. I donated 2 large trash bags full of clothes.

I only kept the basic clothes that I knew I could wear in the next few months.

My closet looks better than it has in years. It was a great feeling once it was done. Sort of a liberating feeling.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
