oh my goodness, it hurts!

Ok the title seems harsh but it is true! I have had 5 or 6 fills and the last 2 about brought me off the table! He numbs me but it is not working to well. I was numb at the surface but I could feel the needle sticking me deep inside my tummy. He could not find my port :tt2: Ok question, that is quite a long needle that they are sticking in there, cant they hurt something buy poking around looking for the port? I was filled to 6cc in a 10 cc band, I went in last week and he put me to 6.5 because I felt I was just about where I wanted to be and now I am upset because before I got another fill I had good restricting ( not great, but good ) and now, I can eat a lot of food again... I feel like I went through that fill for nothing..and it is frustrating and I don't know what to do. I have the choice to get a fill whenever I want one, but I am so darn scared to do it now, in fear of it hurts so bad. He mentioned doing the next one under that x-ray thing so he could look at things and I am wondering if that would be a good idea or not?

Anyways thanks for letting me vent and ask some questions, any advice would be great. I am up in the air about this thing.. and could just use someone to talk to who understands what I am feeling!

I have only been banded for a week, so I have not had any fills yet but I hear the flouroscopy is better for finding the port. I am now praying it is bc you have me scared .

I am not one for needles but if I was in your situation I would try the other way and if you can't you can always just say to yourself "it hurts to be beautiful". My mother used to tell me that when she was brushing my hair as a child. Now I totally see that with eyelash curlers and such tools she was right all along. :tt2:

Good luck!!

I have had 8, and yes there were a couple that caused more pain the day after, and one that he was on the edge of the port and when her pushed a little more, it actually slipped off the edge of the port and bent the tiny needle. He has only done the early fills under the flouro, my belly fat has been at a min and you could see and fel my port easily. Then the others he hit it the first time. I actually think my port is not flat, it must be turned downward just a tad. He hits it best when he sticks about 3/4 -1 inch lower than my incision. The most soreness has been whe it took 2 sticks. Not really any pain at the fill time.

Hang in there and be patient with yourself. You will get there. It can take alot of tweaking from what ive read to get to your "sweet spot". Id wait for the xray thing..see how things go for another few weeks. You are doing good though. I go for my second fill today which will put me at 7cc in a 14 band. Wish me luck.

Just an update, The dr. called me today and wants me to go to the hospital friday at 2 to have it done. I am scared but at the same time relieved at the same time. At least I will have peace of mind that he is getting to get a good look at it and see whats going on! And to those who read this, I truely did not mean to scare anyone. most of my fills have been great, but I am not going to lie, the last two have been "upsetting". lol So I am sorry. this was just my luck..lol

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
