Question about food cravings

Recommended Posts

I notice that when I 'cheat' I have craving issues for a couple of days afterward. I dont slack off often but if I want to enjoy some ice cream with my kids I do. I did this on Saturday and I noticed yesterday I was just miserable craving all the junk. What am I missing here? Is it psychological? I gota taste of the ice cream and suddenly wanted to eat a half gallon of sherburt or did I have some sort of physiological response to the sugar/fat? I read briefly in a post somewhere that our system gets out of whack and and indulgance can trigger cravings and something about the glycemic index. Could use some insight on this. I am kind of hoping it is not all in my head cause I thought I was past this already (at least mostly). Also, what can one do to counteract this?

There is definitely a physiological cause to your cravings. When you eat something sugary your blood sugar spikes suddenly then it drops suddenly. That sudden drop triggers signals to send more sugar to get the levels back up and the cycle begins. Some of us are more prone to this problem than others and with the high sugar, highly processed foods and high fructose corn syrups in our foods, at least here in the US, a lot of us have blood sugar issues even if we are not diabetic.

The key is to keep the blood sugar leveled. Protein and high Fiber veggies have little effect on your blood sugar. fruit and sugar free Snacks have less effect than starchy and sugary carbs. When you do have carbs, choose a healthy or sugar free version and have it with a little protein to avoid spikes in blood sugar. I avoid sugar and white carbs completely. I do eat carbs in the form of fruit , high fiber veggies and whole grains but I always have them with a protein.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
