Is anyone Constipated after starting solids?

Recommended Posts

I was banded Dec.9, 2008 Now that I'm eating solids I've become constipated. I am going to try Dulcolax suppositories to see if this helps. I hope this doesn't become a habit. Anybody else having this problem? Wonderful topic.

Hey Vickie. No problem with the topic cause it is something your having to deal with that you want to know your not the only one dealing with it. For me I am not as much constipated as my stole is very very firm. I am sure we both need more Fiber built into the diet to loosen up. That's the best thing I could suggest right now.

I have been constipated for a year now. It sucks. I did recently discover that I am lactose intolerant and that I may have IBS so I am trying to sort out what makes it worse. The painful bloating is almost gone (I have the occasional ice cream) but I am still constipated. Lots of people suggest mirolax and i am thinking of giving that a try again. Oh, the glycerin suppositories work wonders, as well.

OH YES, I am having this problem .... I've tried some MOM (milk of magnesia) and it seems to work well. I've been eating more eggs instead of my oatmeal in the morning, maybe I should go back to more oatmeal? I do have some of those high fiber Water packets (like crystal light) but I've read somewhere that's not the type of fiber we need, we need insoluble fiber like bran or oatmeal, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions--I'm sure I'm not drinking enough Water. Otherwise, it's good to see everyone is doing great. Aren't we glad we did this:thumbup:

Are you going back to TJ for your fills? I lucked out and found a person to do my fills here in Wasilla. No horror story he knew exactly what he was doing with one try and it was over.

Wishing you luck

Hey Vickie,

No I found a place in Ft. Lauderdale to do my fills which is only about 45 minutes away from here. Going to TJ for my fills means flying, overnight stay, and of course time off from work to do this. So with all that added up it is cheaper for me to just go to Ft. Lauderdale to get my fills. My first fill went very well. Got 2 CC and the doctor was very nice.

Hope all is going well for you!

Peter

My doctor suggested Benefiber. When I miss a daily BM the next day I use it... by afternoon if still haven't move try once more...that usually does the trick for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
