Restriction on 4th fill--should I stop?

Recommended Posts

Please help me--I finally have some restriction after my 4th fill. On most solid foods and even other foods like salads I have restriction and if I don't chew properly and slowly it will back up on me. Yet on the other hand I was able to scarf down (eating slowly) an entire thin crust medium pizza the other day. ( I wasn't proud of that). I presently have 7cc's in my 14 cc band. My wife thinks I should have a bit more added, like .5 cc's on my next fill appointment. I am just not sure. I have lost a small amount of weight, but my wife attributes it to running around so much while the kids were home from Christmas. I don't want to go too far, however a bit more restriction might make me eat smaller portions of food. So should I get a bit more fill, or have I actually reached my sweet spot, or close enough?

How long did it take you to eat the pizza? Did you eat some, wait for a while then eat more or did you eat it in one sitting?

At proper restriction I could never do that in one meal. (the last time I had pizza I couldn't finish 1/2 slice from a large pizza and I felt full and bloated from that). But I could eat until I am full wait until some of the food passes out of my pouch then eat some more (but that would be against the bandster rules)

You should be satisfied on smaller portions and stay satisfied for several hours while losing weight. You should not be able to eat a whole pizza in one sitting. Whether you are getting stuck, PB'ing, backing up etc. are not the best indicators for deciding if you need a fill, they are indicators of whether you are eating properly. I could get stuck from the very beginning but it took five fills to be at my sweet spot.

Thanks Jodi for responding. I actually ate that pizza in a short time frame--like 15-20 minutes. It did surprise me that it went down so easily. From your comments it appears that you feel I am not there yet. I could ask the doc to fill maybe .5cc's. You are right that PB's really don't have a lot to do with the proper restriction--I really hadn't realized that until you said it.

My wife and I went out to eat last night and I ate so slowly that after 20 minutes I was done and I only ate half the food on my plate--I was so proud of myself!! I should have learned this earlier and I wouldn't have needed the surgery!! LOL

It could be that just a slight fill will do the trick, it is really surprising how far a tiny fill will go at this stage.

I agree w/ Jodi. I could never eat a whole medium or small pizza. None of us should be doing that. ;-P It would take me all day long just to chew it LOL! Were you totally stuffed after? I have found I really have to listen to my body more. I thought when I got to the right amount of fills I would just feel too stuffed to eat any more. I never feel too stuffed. I was told just to eat till I'm NOT hungry anymore. This is easy to do since I have to eat SOOOOO slow now. HTH! :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
