How many times did you have to see a shrink?

Recommended Posts

I just made my first, second and third appointments to see the shrink. I did not think I would need to go more than once. Is this normal? How many times did you have to go? I know the referral says I can see them up to three times, I did not think that meant I had to see them three times. She has not even seen me once and has me scheduled for all three times. I want to get this all done before my next doctor visit on the 21st, but hey, three times! Maybe I am crazy!

At my appointment with the psychologist she said she wanted to see me again before she would clear me for surgery. She also gave me the option of finding a therapist closer to home. I chose to meet with a therapist (mostly because I didn't really like the psychologist) now I'm established with someone close to home, and I don't have to see the psychologist again.

I have Aetna insurance and they require a three month supervised diet/exercise/psych program.

I had my first appt with the psych guy today. This was our "intro" meeting and doesn't count toward the three month deal. Darn!

Oh, well...I'll end up seeing him four times. I guess it depends on insurance requirements.

Good luck to you on your journey!! :tongue2::biggrin::blink:

Just once for a basic psych exam and clearance.

I just went the once. He offered if I felt like I had anything else I wanted to talk out with him to come back, but I think they generally won't ask you to come back unless they feel like you have unrealistic expectations of what the band can do for you, or they have a suspicion that you have underlying food issues above and beyond normal patients (like major binge eating, past bulimia, pica, etc).

Not to suggest that's what's happened with you. I do know someone that just had bad luck with their psych eval and got a very very thorough psych that didn't want to approve anyone until they met a few times. So while it's generally for suspicions, it may be just a bad luck of the draw

I strongly considered mentioning my history of bulimia, but am 100% sure that it is in my past and not recurring, and I wasn't wanting to have to "hug it out" with my psychiatrist over three months.

Best of luck ! You'll get through it !

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
