Help! I'm drowning in my own fat

Recommended Posts

Aloha All,

I am new to the community and am contemplating getting the Lap Band surgery. My name is Elaina and I am 115 lbs over weight. I am sick of looking this way, feeling this way and failing at losing the weight. My normal weight is 103 and I have a tiny bone structure so you can imagine how off balance I must look. I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and am retaining fluids in my ankles and calves. My blood pressure fluctuates from high to normal. Just hoping to get some support and courage to follow through with the lap band surgery. Thanks for the support!

I am new too. I am 130 lbs over wt. I am looking forward to my banding. It takes great courage to make changes that will require hard work. Remember one thing...you are worth the effort.

Thanks Godschild, I appreciate all the support I can get. I haven't even attempted to check with my medical insurance regarding this procedure but I am so tired of feeling yucky that I am close to it. You are so amazing and brave to have made up your mind to have the surgery. I admire you so much and yes you are worth it. I would love to follow your progress as I am so excited for you. Please keep in touch and may God surround you with his love and protection before during and after the surgery. Take care and best wishes!

Thank you so much. I am 3 months into my 6 months supervised diet with my doctor requirements. I have had all my requirements met. My only fear is that the insurance for some stupid reason will reject my claim. When I start worring... I think of Phillipians 4;6. That little verse gets me through a lot. God Bless and yes I would love to be one of your supporters and go through this together.

Hi,

Can't tell you what to do but I have not one second of regret having the lapband. I am 57 and have done everything possible... jenny craig,WW, fasting, running. All temporary..until you lose your appetite, which the lap band has done for me, it's a constant struggle. With that said, you have to work with it. High Protein and avoid sugar. It's not a miracle but will help you to prevent over eating.

I wasted alot of years being overweight. At this point in my life, it is wonderful not to be starving. I have not lost a ton of weight, would like to more but if i didn't it would be ok too.

Good luck to you.

Godschild, I guess I need to read more about this procedure as if I am reading your reply correctly you are on a 6 month eating plan before the surgery? Wow it sounds like a lot of preparation and hard work and you have made me feel a little better about it so I will continue to research it more so that I can get to where you are. I am so proud of you for being so disciplined and I think you will do great so keep going forward and before you know it you will be at your ideal weight! Thanks! I will keep in touch as I progress on this very scary journey. Take care! I love the scriptures and appreciate you sharing the verse.

Cheryl, Thanks for sharing your story and some words of encouragement, I appreciate all the support I can get. I am so happy that the procedure worked for you and it gives me more incentive to take the next step in getting it done. I am just the biggest chicken when it comes to pain, altering my body, or even taking medicine and with my attitude I can't believe that I let myself get so fat because if you think about it being over weight is just as hurtful to a body as the other things. Anyway, keep up the good work and stay positive and I am sure that the pounds will continue to fall off. Many blessings to you and stay in touch, I would love to track your progress.

Congratulations on taking the first step!! I had my lap band surgery in June 2008 & I truely believe it has been a life saver for me. I was 120 lbs overweight and have currently lost 77 lbs with lots more to go. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and was born to a family with many heart conditions. Having this surgery has changed my life. I currently have come off my bp medication, and for the first time in my "adult" life have my cholesterol under control. Also, for the first time in a long time, I am excited about going shopping. Best of luck in the next upcoming events. This is only the beginning and I can't say that it gets any easier, but the payoff is worth it. I can't wait to hear about your successful weightloss.

Hi to all of you! I am so excited to hear that yall are considering Lap-band surgery!! I was banded in March of 2007, and all I can say is WOW!!!! I have a brand new life that I could never have had without Lap-band. I was 19 years old, 4'11, and 191 lbs~ How can one live a young, energetic life while being so unhappily overweight? After finding out I had high cholesterol, risk for high blood pressure, and on the road to diabetes, there was no doubt in my mind to be banded. I reached my goal weight of 111 (80lbs) 1 week before my 21st birthday! It took 16 months to loose 80 lbs. Now, almost 2 yrs after being banded, I weigh 101 lbs (90 lbs lighter) and could not be happier! I get the chance to live a normal life for a 21 yr old female and you know what is best?-- You will never have to "fight-the-fat" EVER, EVER again! Take good care of your band- yes, it does have mood swings- and it will take care of you! Have faith!

You Go Girls!!!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
