Lap Band increases fertility?

Recommended Posts

Ok so for about a week now, Im seeing this mentioned more and more. So, is it something about the lap band in particular, or is it more the weight loss that makes us more fertile? Im saying us, even though I am not at all fertile. Im hoping that I will be one of the lucky ones with this side effect. How many of you who are pregnant, were having a hard time getting there before the band? I dont have PCOS, but I havent been able to get pg. I havent gone to any lengths to try (nothing medically supervised or induced). Im just wondering could this be a double blessing for me.

God willing, it could be!

It's not the band itself, it's the WL. Being overweight seriously messes up the hormones for most of us. Estrogen is stored in our fat cells. The more fat cells, the more Estrogen is stored in our bodies. That's also why a lot of have a lot of period bleeding after surgery and when we're losing pretty fast.

Myself, I can't get pregnant, even with intervention (we finally tried IVF after all the other stuff we went thru). BUT even when I was thin, I couldn't get pregnant. My hormones have been messed up since I started puberty! Seriously!

I'm on Depo shots now to stop everything altogether. Not interested in getting pregnant anymore. We have our beautiful daughter (thru adoption) and so my dream of being a mom is fulfilled. Doesn't matter to me how it happened.

I really hope you are blessed with a healthy and wonderful pregnancy!

Take care!

It is definitely the weight loss . . . but the band helps make the weight loss possible so you could say both indirectly.

I had my only child 16 years ago and wasn't blessed with another . . . until I got banded that is.

I lost almost all of my weight, went off the pill and within 2 weeks I had conceived. It has been a miracle for me and I know I am not the only one who has become ultra-fertile post banding.

Overweight causes an enhance in the stage of two key hormones related to fertility – estrogen also known as a female sex hormone and testosterone also known as a male sex hormone.

While an increase in these two hormones outcome in excess body hair, uterine cancer and risk in breast furthermore exactly associated to infertility, causing irregular or hefty periods.

Weight loss after lap band surgery or gastric bypass results in normalization of estrogen and testosterone, and a come back to usual menstrual cycle and improved fertility. yup, its the weight/fat loss. fat contains estrogen - too much estrogen could mean trouble conceiving.

once i lost serious weight and had my Tummy Tuck, i was pregnant within about 2 months - - wasnt 'trying', just having fun... :wink2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
