When was your first fill? My doctor doesn't want to fill me unless I'm not losing or feeling of not being satisfied.

I will be 4 weeks post op on the 5th, I don't go see the doctor again till the 21st. I feel great, eating a 1/2 cup of mushie food each time. I have overeaten a couple of times but realized afterward how bad it hurt and I certainly do not want to go through that again.

Is this normal for a doctor not to give you a fill at 9 weeks post op? He said he wouldn't do the fill at that time if I wasn't having one of the symptoms.

Each surgeon is different. If my doctor had done that I'd be back weighing more than my start weight by now. I woke up hungry in the recovery room! Just having the band "in place" didn't do a thing for me...it does for some lucky people, but most of us need it to be tightened some.

Mine does first fill at 6 weeks, and then subsequent fills at 4 weeks (or more) each time. I'm going in for #4 on Feb 5 and think that'll get me pretty close....

but if I had a doctor like yours I'm afraid I'd be one of those "band failure" people.

I too had my first fill at 6 wks out. My surgeon will do fills every 4 wks or more. My second fill ended up being at 5 wks due to Thanksgiving holiday. And my third fill is scheduled for 1/9 because of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

I would make special note of any increase in appetite, and hunger between meals before your next scheduled appointment. If you are not being satisfied, and staying full for 4 hours between meals you should say so and request a fill.

I just had my first fill today at 6 weeks. I found out that I have a 14cc band and he put 4 cc's in. He said to see how my appetite is over the next week or so - if I'm still eating more than I should be - then to schedule another one.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
