Alright, Day 1 -- DONE

5 glasses Water (need to get in that 6 today)

2 Protein Shakes (probably need more Protein than that)

pureed chicken Soup (does that count as a liquid?)

40 minutes exercise

3-1/2 pounds gone this morning - WOO HOO!

I did fine all day until bedtime and then it was HELL. I think I'm one of those who likes to eat when I have no witnesses because everyone was in bed and I thought of 9 million things to eat (although I managed to ABSTAIN). Oh, well...

** I hear crickets chirping in here... did I jump in too late.... am I alone?? :cool2: **

Alright, I may be alone but I am going to keep on posting! :)

For anyone who wonders if the 5DPT is worth it -- IT IS!!

Since starting, I have lost 7 pounds and I feel myself beginning to regain control of my eating. I never realized until now that I AM addicted to food and when you let yourself have just a little taste (over and over), gradually you begin to slide back into those self-destructive behaviors. Luckily, I like the new me too much to destroy my results so WHOO HOO  for the 5DPT.

I also realized that yes, it is time for a fill so I will be going to get that on Wednesday.

Thanks again, BBK for starting the thread, Luluc for posting the link and all you wonderful ladies who contributed to this thread. You have been inspiring and TRULY helped pull this girl back on the wagon!

I've just gotten back home after visiting my parents for over two weeks. I started out with the best of intentions regarding my eating, but after a few days I stopped trying as hard. When I weighed this morning I was expecting the worst but had, surprisingly, only put on 2.2 pounds. Still, I went carb crazy and need to get that out of my system, so I'm starting detox/5DPT today. I'm looking forward to getting those pounds off, plus more, hopefully. Anxious to get back to Curves, too. Wish me luck!

OK - tried (started) the 5DPT early January ...... I failed and have beat myself up adequately now.... so now I'm ready to start it again Monday.

I haven't lost any weight since Thanksgiving, but it's totally my fault (cookies, chocolate - shame on me!!)

Got the stomach bug really bad mid January and a slight unfill (my band wasn't letting me throw up!) Got a little of what was unfilled back, but I know I need more. I think I'll call the doc the end of the week.

This thread keeps giving me inspiration to get back on track. Thank you everyone! I didn't spend all of this $$$ to do this to myself!

I am going to start again. I started going a little crazy this past few weeks. It started with a taste of cake. I obviously cannot just taste the cake. I haven't gained any weight, but I also haven't lost any in 2 weeks. It is time to start over (again ;0P). Thanks for bumping this back up to the top. I needed to see it again.

Visiting family, traveling period, is so hard! I'm continually amazed that even when I think I've done the worst, when I get on the scale or really think about the choices or portions or... whatever, it's not NEAR as bad as it could've been or WAS before surgery.

Slim, don't beat yourself up over the cake. You now know that you can't even have a bite, so don't! (I know, I know! Easier said than done! I DO know!) Getting the head stuff under control is going to take some time. Maybe in a year or so, you can have a bite of cake and be okay. Maybe not. I'm not much further out than you are and I'm still learning and I think I will be for awhile. There are a few things that I've found that I just can not have in the house. Cheetos are one. I will buy a small bag once in awhile just to get the taste of them but I can't have them around all the time or in large bags. I'll sit and eat them ALL!!! I don't even know what it is that I like about them so much! :tongue2: Hang in there!

Best wishes to all of you! You CAN do this!!!

Cheetos need to be their own food group. That was something else I started eating once I had the cake. I have now gotten them all out of the house. Good luck to us all!

Oh gosh, Cheetos - the hard ones, not the puffy ones...and the Kroger brand is even better than actual Cheetos to me. I can't get my husband to give up his chips, so there are usually Pringles, tortilla chips, Fritos and cheese curls in the house. Putting them all in a big paper bag works pretty good for me - out of sight, out of mind - but sometimes the salty/crunchy cravings hit. The amazing thing is that 98% of the time I am happy with just a couple of chips, where before I would have eaten half the bag. I'd prefer they were just not in the house though.

Your DH sounds like my DH. He has to have his chips. I have to buy the 50 count multi-flavored boxes. I don't put them in the kitchen so that I won't grab a bag. I like the crunchy jalapeno cheddar Cheetos. I didn't buy any. I would have tried to eat my weight in them. :w00t:

Oh I haven't tried those. I'm afraid too. I'm already addicted to the regular ones! They're a major slider food for me. I can slowly eat the dumb things all day if I wanted too. I was really proud of myself. The last time I bought a small bag (not the larger family size) it took me a whole week to eat them! Before surgery, I'd have grabbed the bag and hit the couch to eat the entire bag in one sitting AND it would've been the BIG bag!!!! I have gotten a lot better! LOL! But I really just can't buy them very often.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
