Getting Banded Monday

Recommended Posts

I am very sore, having trouble sleeping on my side. My surgeon's nurse said to put a pillow under my tummy and that is helping. I have loritab for my pain but I was told to take it easy since it causes severe Constipation. I'm on Clear liquids for a week...what about you guys?

I was banded Monday too. I'm really sore as well. My one incision is really big...it's the one that is the sorest. It's not the port site though..not sure what that is all about. I have regular Percocet pills for pain, but to be honest the adult rapid blast liquid Tylenol seems to help more than anything. More so that that, infants Mylicon drops have kept my gas situation down. Not sure if you're having any gas pain. I'm supposed to be on anything you can get through a straw for the next week. I was told a lot of Protein shakes, but oh my, they are like gross to me now. I did cream of wheat this AM, added brown sugar and extra milk, it was sooo good!!!!! It went down just fine! I have some awesome receipes for smoothie shakes if you're interested. It puts a spin on them so it doesn't taste like you're drinking chalk!

I threw up my first night home and all I'd had was Water - just a few sips. Bad gas and some pain. Honestly, this is worse than I expected. It makes my abdominal hysterectomy look like a breeze. My doctor keeps calling to check in, and I think that he is quite stellar.

I agree. I'm in a lot more pain than I thought I'd be in. I'm not sure if I would do it again (of course that is the pain talking right now). I haven't eaten since December 21st. I was on fulls then clear and still on clear. I'm very hungry.

It seems like every doctor has their own diet plan. I was on no carbs before surgery, then on the sunday before I had Breakfast (my last meal) then Clear Liquids until surgery. Now I am on liquids but not clear. I get 4oz about every hour if not full. It should take me 15min to drink 1oz. I have Low Sod. V8 juice, apple juice diluted 1/2 with Water, Decaf tea, diet snapple, skim milk with whey Protein mixed, broth, creamed Soup stained, surgar free Jello and popsicles. I was told not to drink from a straw to sip everything. After my first visit I will go to puree. I'm sore but not in bad pain.

Hey how is everyone doing?? I will be one week post op monday. The first couple of days were very painful, but has gotten better with each day. I'm able to lay on each side and almost completely on my stomach. I'm down to taking Lortab just twice a day, when I wake up I'm really sore and need something and before I go to bed to make it easier to move around without a lot of pain. How is everyone doing with getting in all the Protein? ?? I'm not doing to well, I do a Protein Shake (22g) in the morning then do broth, pudding and Jello the rest of the day. I bought some unflavored protein to put in broth but it was gross. I ordered some of the protein bullets from GNC so I hope get those soon so I can fufill my protein requirements. One more week of full liquids anyone have suggestions??? Yesterday I really started feeling hungry, I hope I can make it another week on liquids, hehehe.... I hope everyone is doing well!!!!!!!!!

Hi Steph - I am one week post op tomorrow too. This has been a tougher week than I ever expected. The pain was really bad for the first 3 days and then each day after that has gotten easier. My doctor has recommended that I stay on a liquid diet until next week. I have had bad gas and felt "stuck" a couple of times after eating small amounts of yogurt. I an sleep on my side but not on my stomach, and I have absolutely zero appetite. I have to force myself to get my liquids in and I'm not able to tolerate a Protein Drink yet. The post op pain has been the worst part of this whole thing - I don't miss eating one bit! I make mashed potatoes and grilled cheese sandwiches for my family and have no desire to even take one bite. I'm taking liquid meds about twice daily along with my gas pills. I've been upset that there was so much more pain than I ever expected - I've had surgery three other times and this was the most difficult recouperation for me so far. Not sure why, I just accept it as it is and know that I'm feeling so much better every single day. My doctor has been great and calls to check in on me frequently. I probably would have done better early on if I had just taken all of the pain and nausa pills immediately when I got home and stayed on schedule. All in all, I'm glad I did this.

I'm telling you guys..liquid Mylicon drops for infants should be patented toward this surgery. I had HORRIBLE gas..that was the worse of all the pain I had!! Liquid tylenol for adults worked better than the Percocet the doctor prescribed. I'm not doing too good w/protein. I can't bear a look at any kind of Protein Shake. I'm actually starving. I've been doing scrambled eggs and then mushed them up and I did a black bean paste recipe and that was pretty good w/the protein aspect anyway. Tastes good too. I'm one week post-op tomorrow as well....but I'm trying to rush it I think. I have trouble sleeping on my left side even though my port is on my right side. That's one thing I can say...I've never had trouble sleeping. I go to soft foods as of this Wednesday.

Good Luck on Monday. Please let us know how it went. I have my 6th weigh in with my doctor on Friday, Jan. 9th. Then all of my paperwork gets resubmitted. As of that day I have completed all of my requirements. Was your road rough in getting approval? Jennifer71

Tomorrow is my one week bandiversary as well. I was supposed to be on clears for a whole week but yesterday and today I had an 8 oz. Protein Shake and feel MUCH BETTER. I have a lot more energy. I don't have any problem drinking large amounts and I'm very hungry. Right after surgery my doctor said my stomach had shrunk during the pre-op diet and my band was very loose. He said I will get a fill early, probably. I think that is why I am hungry. I read that lots of us after surgery have no hunger at all! I was only in pain for the first 3 days. The Loritab gave me horrible Constipation then diahrea so I switched to liquid Tylenol which was a lot better, I haven't needed that for days though. My only pain has been hunger pangs! I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well.

Hi Samie- I was banded the day after you. I also caved in and have added Protein shakes- I cannot believe how much better I felt almost instantly! I also have no trouble getting my liquids in. I can't wait to get the go-ahead to mushies so I don't feel hungry. It happens so suddenly, too. I was not expecting that!

Hello monday banders 12/29. 6 days post-op. I had a very hard 2 day recovery. By the 3rd day my aunt was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and I had to muster up the strenght to go to the hospital to tend to her. I am her power of attorney. The walking around was hard but it probably did me good to walk. I have no pain except at the port site which is tolerable. I am not hungry but want something with full flavor and texture in my mouth. Someone said that they looked at the food network and that it help. I have been also and really believe it helps give me some ideas of what different kinds of foods that I can try when I get to get solids again. I am not feeling normal just yet. I get tried after a short walk and have to sit down because the port side pain is a little much. I ate 2 macdonalds french fries today because i was curious to know how I would react. I don't have restriction yet but have not felt hunder pains. I have lost 9lbs since surgery. I got to figure out how to get one of those ticker strip to show my weight loss. later for now.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
