Can you stretch out the pouch in liquid stage

Recommended Posts

I am 10 day post op and still on liquids and today I am starving so bad it is really causing physical pain. I decided to drink/eat the liquid part of french onion Soup and did not measure it out, I probably ate about 2 cups of liquid in one sitting, now worried I could have damaged my pouch. Does anyone know are we supposed to be measuring how much liquid we take in at a time or since it is liquid it is just flushing straight thru?

Don't worry. If you think about it you'll realize it's ok unless you chugged a bunch....

the stoma (hole) between your "new pouch" and your "old stomach" isn't restricted (think about the size of a nickel or quarter) so, like it does through a garden hose, liquids just flow on through.

DONT eat though! You're doing well; stick to your doc's post op instructions

And, it gets better. Hang in there!

I know the feeling! But at least you are sticking to your liquids! You should be proud; it's hard to do, but so important!

MJ1, you've entered bandster hell. The swelling from surgery has subsided and you're left with an empty band. The primary focus right now is healing not weight loss. That's why the doc has you on a liquid diet. It may take 2,3,4 fills or even more to achieve satisfactory restriction. It will take a lot of will power to continue weight loss during this time. Don't get discouraged - it will get better though! And don't worry - your pouch is fine!

if i already stretched my pouch, is it posible to shrink it, or fix it?

Check with your surgeon. You can't really "tell" if it is stretched or not but your surgeon can. To answer your question, it won't "shrink" back. If it is truly stretched (and that does happen...that's one way Gastric bypass patients can regain weight...their clipped "tiny tummy" expands) to the point of band failure, corrective surgery may be needed. That would be up to you and your surgeon, but don't borrow trouble. Your surgeon is the source of info for this!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
