Question about eating with new band :O)

Recommended Posts

Ok to start I would like to say thank EVERYONE on this site because you all help me out so much. :smile2:

Alright now for my question... I was banded on 12/11 and I seem to be healing and eating ok but I know when one is banded they expierence alot of gas discomfort and pain which I HAVE. Now I read that when you eat if you start burping it could be that you ate too much? I'm a little confused about that because I eat my suggested amount and I feel full but I do notice that I burp sometimes right after. Is there a reason or am I worried about nothing?

You are still on liquids aren't you? I wouldn't worry about the burping. There is alot of gas there from the surgery and burping is good. You need lots of fluids. Just remember to sip them throughout the day.

yes...having liquids all day for two weeks is a HUGE CHANGE and not as easy as they make it seem when they tell you about it:thumbup:.

Well thank you. I was worried and no one on my end at this time would be able to answer that.

I'm with you on the burping issue. I was just banded on the 12th of Dec. and my DH says he hasn't heard such noise since his college fraternity days! I go back to work next week and certainly hope it calms down by then.

The gas/burping will calm down in about a week - week and a half post op. Well at least mine did. Try to not swallow air..I know sound stupid but it's what my dr said as you swallow try to push the air out through your nose. Seemed to help. I was banded on the 4th and I am completely gas free. :smile2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
