Slime and froth and getting stuck

Recommended Posts

I have read and read. I go in for my band tomorrow morning and I have read many times about certain foods sliming or frothing. Also you speak of foods getting stuck! How does it go down eventually? Have any of you got something stuck and had to go back to your Doc for help with it?

Getting stuck means the food was either not chewed well enough, was too dry or Gummy to fit through the opening or eating too fast will do it too. You won't have this issue for some time though. When you do have enough restriction for this to happen you feel a tightness in your throat or upper chest & you get a slim-like liquid that comes in your mouth that is a response to the stuck food trying to dislodge itself. Most times I try to force it out (force a gag) & NEVER eat or drink on top of it because that only adds to the problem. Some people actually vomit but I haven't yet because I don't have a strong gag reflex but you should never try to vomit unless it is the only way to get it up. It usually subsides after a while but if you're in a lot of pain you can call your doctor to see what he advises but I've never had it that bad. You will learn & reading on here will help answer a lot of your questions in the beginning.

Good Luck!!

From recommendations on this site I tried doing the downward dog yoga move when I got stuck and it worked and made me feel better a lot more quickly...Good luck with everything!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
